The Background

The J40 series of Land Cruisers was made by Toyota for an incredible 41 years, from 1960 to 2001, and was the natural development of their early military vehicles.

Traditional body-on-frame utility vehicles they are reliable and rugged and have seen use in just about every environment on earth.

The History

This is a long wheelbase FJ45 pickup, sporting the largest petrol engine they made for the model, the “2F” 4.2L inline 6 cylinder. The 2F engine features a larger bore than the smaller 3.8L “F” engine, and has enhanced oil filtration over the “F” engine.

It produces 135bhp and 200ft/lb of torque. It was imported from Australia in 2017, all paperwork completed and has a british registration and V5, and has not had any ownership changes since its import.

The vehicle was owned and operated by the Great Northern Mine in Herberton, Queensland. The Mine was added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992. The service history and milage documentation from that time is very limited, but it is obvious it has been very well looked after.

The Paperwork

V5 present, along with several original Australian registrations and lots of original booklets, receipts and transport documentation from its time in service to Great Northern Mine.

The Interior

The interior shares the same fantastic blue as the bodywork with blue and white seats, very utilitarian it has a very rugged and old school feel.

Very clean, but not without some marks and blemishes that you would expect from a vehicle of this type. No fancy bells and whistles, just rugged old school cool.

The Exterior

At some point it has been repainted, not a show finish by any means but has been well looked after and retains a very cool utility look, with some marks and blemishes around.

Certainly the perfect mix between a clean looking paint job but also one you’d not be scared to take off road and use this machine as it was intended! It even has a Vice mounted to the front bumper! The exterior style of this vehicle is very utility, nothing more than what was needed for a solid and capable off-road utility vehicle.

The classic white toyota grill and roof add a great contrast and the 15” Pajero alloys wrapped in 30” GT Radial Adventuro mud terrain tyres with white sidewall lettering, and wood panelled pickup bed complete the fantastic overall look of this FJ.

The Mechanics

Mechanically this vehicle has had no expense spared.

Everything that has needed attention has been seen to, and has loads of new parts including discs, drums, slave cylinder, water pump, fuel pump, radiator, under bonnet has been powder coated, new headlamps, tie rod ends, aluminium brake pipes I noticed which is a very nice premium touch, all fresh fluids. Lots of stainless hardware all over.

The 4.2L petrol engine wants for nothing and purrs along perfectly. A real joy to look over, please take the time to view the detailed pictures!

The Appeal

It doesn’t get much better than this if you are after a retro 80s, super cool off-road utility vehicle.

The styling is perfect and a so well sorted mechanically, this machine won’t disappoint no matter what the environment you put it in!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
