1984 Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0 RS RHD

THE HIGHLIGHTS

• Very well-preserved inside and out
• Genuine low mileage
• Desirable twin-cam 2-litre engine

THE BACKGROUND

Alfa have always made great saloons with a sporting edge, and the Giulietta is no different. Manufactured from 1977 until 1985, it was facelifted twice during this time, and offered with a range of engines from a buzzy little 1.4 twin-cam, up to the barn-storming 2.0 turbo. All featured the same eye-catching, angular design and traditionally involving Alfa drive, making them a popular choice with keen drivers at the time.

THE HISTORY

First registered in October 1984, this Giulietta has had 6 owners from new, with the current keeper having owned it since 2013. It’s clearly been cherished and cared for over the years, as it presents in very good condition. Unsurprising perhaps, considering how few miles it has covered – just 50,376 miles. This model is the Series 3 (facelifted in 1983), so is one of the later Giuliettas that were produced.

THE PAPERWORK

The V5 is present and correct and confirms the car’s heritage and low number of owners since first registration.

THE INTERIOR

Giuliettas have always had great interiors, and this one is no different. The seats, headlining and door cards are trimmed with a tweed style grey fabric that complements the car perfectly and is in lovely condition. The blacks carpets are similarly in very good condition and, along with the wooden steering wheel and gear knob, make the cabin a great place to be. It’s classic early 80s design in the very best way.

The dash is classic Alfa, clear and well laid out. One of the things we really love about this model of Giulietta is the reverse tachometer, which means that the speedometer and tachometer needles rise to meet each other in the middle. It’s a small touch, but something that adds a little bit of Alfa quirkiness and sporting finesses to the design of the dash. It’s the kind of thing that bring s a smile to the face every time you get in.

THE EXTERIOR

Alfa’s 70s and 80s cars were strikingly designed, with brutish angles instead of curves. They a love-or-hate kind of thing, but we love them. And the Giulietta is one fo the finest bits of design from Alfa’s catalogue during this period. From the striking angles of the 3-box design to the achingly cool turbine style alloys and integrated aerodynamic spoiler, this is a great looking vehicle.

The silver paintwork appears to be in very good condition, as does all of the exterior trim, the wheels and the badging. This car also features integrated front fog lights and headlight wipers (always a delight to see).

THE MECHANICS

Mechanically, the car looks very clean and tidy. The engine bay is in great original condition and is very clean and tidy. The engine is Alfa’s classic twin-cam 1,962cc 4-cylinder, mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. It’s a cracking combination for anyone that loves to drive, offering a healthy output of 128bhp, all pushed to the rear wheels to offer classic sports saloon handling.

THE APPEAL

While the Giulietta sold very well, back in the late 70s and early 80s it was overshadowed by its main rival, BMW’s 3 series. These days, the Giulietta is becoming a very sought-after car. It’s easy to see why too. Visually, they look fantastic to our eyes.

The boxy, angular design is pure 80s, with some lovely touches such as the integrated spoiler. Inside the cabin is a great place to be, and it’s all tied together with that fantastic drivetrain – a 2 litre twin-cam driving the rear wheels through a 5 speed manual gearbox. Pure driving nirvana.

And this example is a really lovely one. The specification is great, that silver paintwork over the grey and black cloth interior looks perfect to our eyes. It’s clearly been very well cared for too – it’s straight, honest and presented in very good condition inside and out.

If you’re looking for a retro sports saloon that will bring a smile to your face every time you see it and drive it, then this is for you. It’s the kind of car that makes you seek out the long way home, makes you turn around and look back every time to park it, makes you fill your phone with photographs of it at every opportunity.

Old Alfas have a way of worming into your heart and kidnapping your soul. We reckon this Giulietta is just such a car. They’re an increasingly rare find, and becoming ever more desirable, so this is the perfect time to scratch that 80s performance saloon itch. And what better way to do it than in an Alfa?

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
