The Background

SS Cars Limited of Coventry manufactured the SS Jaguar 100 between 1936 and 1940. They intended to reflect the 100mph maximum speed and approved by Sir William Lyons, the model name “Jaguar” was given to the range.
Only 198 SS100’s were built with the 2.5 litre and 116 with the more powerful 3.5 engine. Cars in good condition now reach in excess of £300,000. With the rarity becoming difficult to track these cars down, boutique car manufacturer, Suffolk Sports Cars set the standard in terms of reproducing this iconic sports car.
Suffolk Sports Cars went in to liquidation in 2020 and now the cars they reproduced from the 1930s to 1950s are surely going to be a desirable part of the classic car world.
Based around a substantial box-section chassis tailored to accept XJ6 suspension, brake, steering and drivetrain assemblies, the production version was predominantly supplied in 'home-build' form at the rate of four a year until 1996 when the manufacturing rights were purchased by Roger Williams of Suffolk Sportscars. Reborn and refined as the Suffolk SS100, the design remains in production to this day.

The History

C484 DUG is resplendent in a dark metallic racing green, set off with the light green leather upholstery and dark green carpets it looks period from the colour scheme and is set off with the black canvas roof.

The seller, from an engineering background has put many hours of work in to producing this SS100 replica, stamped by Suffolk and registered as a SS Sports car it is road legal and ready to drive from collection. The cars build was completed early 2021.
The car only has 302 miles on the clock and as you would expect is new with no signs of wear whatsoever.

The Paperwork

The car as mentioned is validated through Suffolk Sports car and comes with accommodating documentation, this is effectively a brand new car and respected classic car restorer Woodham Mortimer will as part of the sale cover a service on the vehicle.

The Interior

The green leather upholstery suits this car perfectly, the door cards also have the quilted leather and with the matching green carpets, this really is the heart of this British sports car. The SS100 has a manual overdrive with brushed chrome gear-lever, and SS adorned instrument gauges.
The care and attention to detail on this car is stunning and a testament to SS cars authenticity of the original design. A nice touch is the wooden steering wheel that sets off nicely against the interior and feels just right in this British sports car.

The Exterior

The paintwork as you would expect is immaculate, the SS logo adorns the radiator surround and all chrome work is immaculate. The mesh wheels have the period chrome wheel spinners and at the rear you have the “owl eye” style rear lights.
The louvred bonnet reveals polished cam covers and twin carburettors. Once closed back up the bonnet is then strapped in to place with the period brown leather straps. The black fabric hood and tonneau cover are as new and no marks of creases whatsoever.
*The near side running board does have a small crack on it, this will be rectified by Woodham Mortimer prior to the sales completion.

The Mechanics

The engine has only produced 300 miles but will have a service and be shaken down by Woodham Mortimer, a classic car restorer with a worldwide reputation for creating award winning classic vehicles.

The Jaguar XJ6 engine suits the set up of this car perfectly and partnered with this lightweight chassis will be the perfect pairing for this sports car.

The Appeal

The “retromod” scene is bigger than ever now, Suffolk Sports cars were ahead of there time in producing the SS100 and these cars are harking back to the golden era of motoring, what could be better than causing around in one of the most beautiful cars ever produced with modern running gear and that sonorous Jaguar XJ6 engine up front.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
