The Background

In 1989 Porsche introduced the 944 S2 Cabriolet and the task of turning the coupe into a convertible fell to the American Sunroof Company (based in Germany).
Essentially a number of coupes were delivered, stripped, roof removed, strengthening added, new deck lid created and then spat out as convertibles. Due to this coachbuilt process the 944 S2 Convertible was only made in fairly small numbers and stopped production in 1991.

The History

This particular vehicle has a well documented service history from either Porsche main dealers or independent specialists.
The current owner purchased the car and had it resprayed to freshen it up as he fully intended on keeping it but a change in circumstances forces sale.
The car has covered 116k miles and has a Valid MOT until April 2022.

The Paperwork

The car comes with a fantastic service stamp history from either main dealer Porsche or independent specialists. The V5, receipts for recent works including receipts for the brand new hood.

The Interior

The figure-hugging sports interior is typical of a driver's car like Porsche. You don’t really sit in it, you kind of wear it and it's all set up to be ergonomically centred on the driver.
The interior is in lovely condition with the half leather half velour “tombstone” seats being in great condition. There is a tiny amount of wear to the driver's side bolster.
The car is fitted with a modern head unit and extra speakers.

The Exterior

The car has recently had a basic respray and thus the paint is in very good condition with minor only blemishes. The wheels were also refurbed so are again in fine condition and the tyres were replaced so are practically new.
This goes well with the brand new cloth convertible hood that has also been added recently and the whole package looks great in deep gloss black.

The Mechanics

The car has a fine mechanical service history and it drives well. Under the bonnet, everything is very original.

The Appeal

The 944 may not be seen as the prettiest model to roll off the Porsche production line. With its boxy 80s styling and sometimes garish interior combinations it was bold to say the least.

Today the 944 is considered a stunning classic and the looks just get better with age. Most importantly they drive very well (as any Porsche should) and this example being a convertible means its prime for a B-road blast on a summer's afternoon down to the coast.

If you're after a classy, classic Porsche that has all the right history and will make you the envy of your mates, this is the one.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
