・Unique Quattro Coupé
・A real head-turner!
・Lovely condition throughout
Audi are well-known for being ‘ahead of their time’ when it comes to launching cars, and the Audi Coupé was no exception.
Launched in October 1988, the B3-era coupé and S2 Quattro coupé were designed to replace the ageing, yet iconic, Audi Quattro.
Featuring a 2.3-litre five-cylinder 20v engine good for an 8.1-second sprint to 62mph and a top speed of 136mph, the Quattro Coupe never quite achieved the same legendary status as its predecessor, but as with all good things in the world of motoring, their time is on the way, and just as the 996 has for Porsche, values will likely only go one way in the years to come…
This particular example has been in the care of the vendor for the last one-and-a-half years, having purchased the vehicle from a dedicated Audi enthusiast to add to their collection of classic and retro vehicles.
Imported to Ireland by the vendor and registered on its Irish registration, the vehicle has since been wrapped in matte black with gold fleck detailing, which also matches the gold OZ RACING alloys. The wrap was carried out by a firm in Cork, and prior to its application a number of small wear-and-tear marks and ‘car park’ dings were filled and repaired.
In the last one-and-a-half years, this iconic 90’s coupé has been a fun ‘weekend toy’ for the vendor, and when not in use the vehicle has been kept in a dry, insulated garage to preserve its condition.
Included with the vehicle is a healthy stack of paperwork including old MOT certificates and invoices, along with the original Audi book pack, manual and data sheet showing the original owner and options fitted to the vehicle.
In addition to this, there are two sets of keys with immobiliser tags, Irish registration certificate and a full MOT history is available under the English registration up until 14 February 2020.
Generally speaking, the condition of the interior is very good indeed for its age, with the seats in particular being in remarkable shape with very minimal signs of wear.
The steering wheel and gear lever have a few minor signs of age-related wear and ‘patina’ though this is commensurate with the age of the vehicle. The carpets and luggage compartment are also all in excellent shape, with the interior overall defying its age with apparent ease.
The vendor states that the interior in particular is “more like 3 than 31 years old” and we have to say, we’re inclined to agree based on what we’ve seen!
As previously mentioned, and as can be seen in the photos, this Quattro has been wrapped in a matte black and gold scheme. While this can be removed by the new owner should they wish, the vendor notes that the paintwork underneath is not in the best condition, and would require a respray to bring it in line with the rest of the vehicle.
The wrap is in very good condition with no notable tears or known issues, while all four wheels are in excellent shape and free from kerbing or other damage.
The lenses, too, are in great shape with no cracks or chips, though the lower front splitter is scuffed and would benefit from a refurbishment.
Underneath, this Audi Coupé looks to be in good solid condition, with only the usual surface ‘bloom’ on exposed components such as the suspension and exhaust systems. The body was galvanised from the factory, meaning the panels are in excellent shape and rust-free according to the vendor.
The engine itself, along with the rest of the bay and the ancillaries all look to be in very good condition and have clearly been the subject of extensive attention in the past judging by their cleanliness - an excellent sign of a fastidious owner.
To summarise some of the work that has recently been done to bring the car to its current remarkable condition: new wishbones, tie rods, ball joints and track rod ends. New discs, rebuilt callipers fro the front and back, new master cylinder, fresh oil filter, new plugs, new upgraded and adjustable fuel pressure regulator, new upgraded 034 motorsport injectors, new hoses, new Bilstein inserts, 4 brand new winter tyres, S.S sport exhaust, S2 steering wheel and a new battery.
According to the vendor, the car drives “beautifully” and completely defies its age, meaning it is pretty much ready for the next owner to simply jump in and enjoy!
With the original Quattro coupés and Ur Quattro’s now largely out of the average enthusiast’s price point, many expect these 90’s coupés to be the next big thing.
While we wouldn’t like to comment on the possibility of this, we can say that this looks like an absolutely fantastic example of the 20-valve, five-cylinder Quattro Coupé which is in excellent mechanical and aesthetic health, which still retains potential for further improvement should the next owner wish to paint the car. A fine addition to any collection of modern classics!
