The History

The BMW 7 Series were designed as a luxury saloon, capable of crossing continents at speed without tiring its occupants.
The E32 model is the second version, produced from 1986 through to 1994 and then replaced by the E38 model.  Initially it was available with a choice of 5.0 litre V12 or 3.4 litre straight 6 engines, with BMW adding a further V8 towards the end of production.
A direct competitor to the Mercedes 600 SEL, BMW stole a march on Mercedes Benz by bring out their 7 Series with a newly designed V12 with Mercedes then deciding to delay the launch of the 600 SEL until they too could offer a V12 option.
These 7 Series saloons were one of the first cars produced after a Gentleman’s agreement with other German manufacturers , to electronically limit top speeds to 150 mph.

Car History

Unfortunately, there’s very little information on this BMW’s previous lives.
It would appear by its registration number, to have been first registered on the 14th of February 1990 in Bournemouth on the South coast of England.
From there it spent some time in Enfield North London before finding its way North to Northumberland.
Bought by the vendor earlier this year from an acquaintance, he’s decided to sell as he just has too many projects on the go at the moment and doesn’t feel he has the time to use this one at the moment.

Paperwork

There is a current V5c registration document in the vendors name and a current Mot certificate to May 2022.

Interior

This 7 Series maintains its luxury package with an interior finished in premium blue leather, with wood trim to the dash and door tops.
Air-conditioning is fitted along with all round electric windows, sunroof and cruise control.
The interior has worn well but does show some signs of wear. A little colouring & feeding of the leather would quickly make a big difference, but the carpets appear to be in great shape as do the door cards.
In other words, it’s all here and well specified, it just needs a little care and attention to make the most of this luxury interior.

Exterior

Silver is the colour here but not just any silver, this BMW has been wrapped to give a brushed aluminium effect and very effective it is. It has a dull shine without being matt and suits the car well.
It is peeling just a little in a couple of places ie around the boot opening, but easily rectified by specialist companies found in any local town or city.
There are small scuffs to both front & rear bumpers on all four corners as the pictures will show hopefully.
Overall though, the sills appear sound as does the rest of the bodywork.
Sitting on it’s 17 x 8.5” monoblock wheels , this 7 Series looks purposeful and capable of doing what it was designed for, comfort & excellence.

Mechanics

That V12 really is the heart of this BMW ticking over with the smoothness expected and sounding just the part through its stainless-steel exhaust.
Recent items replaced include suspension bushes and the ss exhaust also the car has undergone a service.
The auto gearbox slips into reverse & drive easily and there didn’t appear to be any clunks or adverse noises when moving it around for the photoshoot.

Appeal

The 7 Series is a glorious luxury saloon capable of very high speeds & high mileages. This example would appear to have the basis for a very enjoyable car and with a little tidying around the edges, will make a great example of this prestigious marque.
As they say , they’re not making any more & this 7 Series is a desirable , useable , comfortable and affordable step into classic car ownership.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
