The Background
The 1991 Mercedes 230 CE is a 90s pillarless coupe with style. It was introduced in 1987 and ran until 1992 which huge popularity.
It looks great and with Mercedes build quality at the time could be relied upon to out live nearly everything else on the road. Available in manual or auto with a number of engine options it was a great choice for the mature professional looking to arrive a meeting in style.
The History
This particular car was purchased by the owner as one to keep however circumstances have now changed and it is up for sale.
The car is in great condition for its age and wants for nothing, it has done 121k which is barely even run in for a model like this.
The Paperwork
The V5 is present , so too a number of print outs of the MOT history. The current MOT is valid until 6th of July of 2022.
There is also a workshop manual which will come with the car.
The Interior
The interior is finished in light grey leather and is in fantastic condition, the rear seats don’t seem to have been sat in much at all however there are a few marks.
All of the wood trim inside the vehicle is in great condition and the drivers seat bolster does have a small amount of discolouration but is not ripped or teared.
Inside it smells like a Mercedes should and the build quality just shines through.
The Exterior
The exterior is very clean for its age, the front wings on these models often suffer with corrosion issues at the bottom however this vehicle has had the front wings replaced and so this is not an issue here.
There is one small area around the aerial (pictured) which may need attention in the future but other than this the car is very tidy.
The Mechanics
The car starts stops and sounds great. The 4 speed automatic smoothly delivers the grunt from the 2.3 litre four cylinder engine with no fuss and there are no weird noises.
Driving this car is a very quiet, smooth, refined experience just as Mercedes intended.
The Appeal
Despite being 30 years old this Mercedes has lost none of its character. It is classy, it is refined and whilst it may not be the massive engined fast version of the range it is more than capable of wafting along and soothing your brow after a hard day.
Impeccably comfortable, these 230 Coupes are creeping up in the collectible stakes and are sure to be one to watch for the future.
A class act in very tidy condition that even Mercedes themselves find hard to follow with their models of today.
