The Background

Introduced in 1988, the Nissan S13 Silvia is an award-winning Japanese coupé which has found fame and adoration within both the sports car and drifting communities. Praised for its handling, balance and ease of tuning, the S13 would go on to win “Japanese Car Of The Year” award in 1988 and achieve very impressive sales figures throughout its life, until it was replaced in 1994 by the S14.
Initially powered by the 1.8-litre CA18DE and CA18DET engines, the 2.0-litre SR20DE and SR20DET engines for the 1991 model year, offering improved torque and power thanks to increased displacement and more efficient turbochargers.
Notably, the S13 was the first of the S-Chassis cars to use the ‘lettered’ trim packages. The ‘J’ package was the base spec, followed by the mid-range ‘Q’ and the top-range ‘K’ cars. Above ‘K’ also sat the ‘K Club Selection’ and ‘K Diamond Selection’ which offered a specific bundle of options.
In addition to the option levels, the S13 also saw one of the first uses of Nissan’s multi-link suspension setup in a production vehicle, along with the HICAS-II four-wheel steering system and viscous-type limited-slip differentials on certain models.

The History

This particular Silva S13 is a top-spec “K’s Club Selection” model, which was built during the last full year of S13 production in 1993.
Imported by the vendor from Japan during 2020, this S13 formed part of a collection which was acquired following the storage location being re-developed, resulting in a job lot of vehicles being imported to the UK.
Being a “K’s Club Selection” model, this S13 benefits from projector headlights, a boot spoiler and 15” aluminium wheels, along with all the options offered by the “Q’s” trim level and standard equipment seen on the base-spec “J’s” package.
Since being imported, the vehicle has been MOT’d but is yet to be road-registered. During its time in Japan, the car was in long-term storage for around seventeen years, meaning it is a true ‘time warp’ car from an important era in Nissan’s history with the added bonus of being largely original barring an upgraded exhaust.

The Paperwork

While there is no formal service history or paperwork from its time in Japan, this S13 has the full clean VX report, MOT certificate and NOVA documentation stating that all VAT and import duties have been paid.

The MOT was a clean pass, though it should be noted that it was carried out with the VIN, rather than the registration on account of the vehicle not being UK-registered.
As there is no formal history, the next owner will need to register the car for UK roads and will be the first UK-registered keeper of the vehicle.

The Interior

Inside, the cabin of this S14 is in remarkably original condition, which is highly unusual to find in a vehicle that is prized among the drifting community, which usually results in the original interiors being stripped down to the bare bones.
The driver’s seat base is showing signs of the material sagging and bunching, though this is the extent of wear to the seats, with no rips, tears or major staining to note - even the bolsters are still in excellent shape! The door cards are also in good shape, though while the passenger side is near-immaculate in its condition, the driver’s side is showing wear around the edge of the fabric insert which will need to be rectified.
The original stereo has been removed and there is currently no replacement, but this simply means the next owner can either source a replacement OEM unit, or install an upgraded item of their choosing.
There are no known faults in the cabin, and no warning lights on the dashboard.

The Exterior

On the outside, this S13 is wonderfully original and free from any aftermarket body kits or spoiler additions, save for the previously-mentioned exhaust.
While the panels are nice and straight and there is no known accident history with the vehicle, there are some areas on the body that will need addressing by the next owner. The rear offside quarter has a significant mark along with the nearside lower rear bumper, front lower offside bumper, rear offside mud flap, and rear offside bumper. In addition to this, there are a few other age-related wear-and-tear marks on the vehicle, though these are commensurate with the age and mileage of the car.
All four of the upgraded 15” alloy wheels are in good condition, with no sign of any major damage or kerbing that we can see.

The Mechanicals

Having had an oil and filter change since arriving on UK shores, the vendor reports that there are no known issues with this S13 mechanically, though they do note that the coolant expansion bottle has cracked and deteriorated with age.
Underneath the bonnet, the SR20DET engine looks to be in excellent condition and has clearly been cared for throughout its life. The block and ancillaries are all wonderfully clean, with no sign of any leaks or fluid misting to be seen.
The vendor notes that thanks to being in long-term storage and never having been driven on salted roads, the underside of this Silvia is in great shape. There is some minor surface corrosion visible on the front crossmember, though this has not been picked up in any reports or flagged as an issue.

It should be noted that the vehicle is currently running on its Japanese map, and has not been re-tuned or fettled since arriving in the UK.
The most recent MOT test took place on 08 February 2021 and resulted in a first-time pass and a clean bill of health for this S13.

The Appeal

The S13 Silvia has proven to be a hit with drivers from the day it was launched, and even today it remains a firm favourite among the tuning and drifting community.
Offering the rare chance to obtain a wonderfully original and unmolested example, this 1993 S13 Silvia K’s Club Edition is a well-specified modern classic in great mechanical condition and needing only some exterior TLC to bring it back to its best; A wonderful easy-going, rolling, usable project for any JDM enthusiast!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
