The Background

The Bentley Brookland’s was released by Bentley in 1992 and ran for 6 years, the Brookland’s was Bentleys full sized luxury car. It was launched with a naturally aspirated 6.75L V8 but in 1996 that platform was given a low-pressure turbo (LPT) boosting the power up to 300hp.  Only 699 LPTs were produced during 1996 and 1997 of which 353 in left hand drive configuration.

This was the car to have in the 90’s if you wanted to cruise around in style and comfort.  The current owner has an extensive knowledge of SZ Bentleys and finds the Brooklands the ideal balance between comfort and power for travel and daily driving.

The History

Has this Brookland’s had a history and a half. Originally delivered to Jack Barclay Ltd. In Black Garnet with Sandstone leather, it was over£100,000 car. After delivery and registration in London, it was immediately sent over to Hong Kong where the previous owner took ownership of it; within his ownership a few cosmetic changes had occurred.

There was the installation of the wood paneling, and wooden gear knob and steering wheel, the latter was a £2500 steering wheel as it was the last one available. The overhaul didn’t stop at the interior, but the exterior paint got changed from Black Garnet to this stunning Peacock Blue that it now wears so well today. At the time the previous owner also decides to rebuild the engine, this refit of everything is done at a huge expense.
Another little bit of history for this specific Brookland’s is that it has been used in 2 national Hong Kong adverts, one for Hong Kong Tod’s and the other was an ad for Hong Kong Estee Lauder.

The current owner bought the car in 2013 and spent 6 years with it as their daily driver in Hong Kong, whilst it was over there the cooling system had some modification to deal with the heat, this is why you see a nice new and shiny aluminum expansion tank.  Additionally the wheels were upgraded to 17 inch turbo wheels to mount modern tyres.
In May 2019 the current owner ships it over from Hong Kong and it arrives in the UK in the June of the same year. When it enters the country, it goes straight to Hillier Hill (a well renowned specialist in these cars) where the current owner spends a lot of money to make sure that the car is as mechanically sound as possible.

The goal of this rigorous maintenance is to enable the current owner to drive to continental Europe , drive round for a few months and return with no issues. It has done this trip twice and just returned from such a trip and it performed excellently with no faults.

The Paperwork

The paperwork that comes with this car is extensive. It starts off with the original delivery note to Jack Barclay Ltd. outlining the delivery specification of Black Garnet on Sandstone Leather. When it goes over to Hong Kong the paperwork follows it, with some paperwork including invoices from the previous owner.

When we get to the current owner all of the paperwork is kept in a file so there is extensive paper from Hong Kong where all the work is done by Leader Motors, these all equate to thousands of pounds.
When the current owner imports the car to the UK it is sent to Hillier Hill and is party to a bit of a rolling restoration over the past couple of years. This overhaul comes in at around £27,000, a massive investment but thanks to this it now means you can enjoy worry free motoring wherever you go.

The Brooklands is known to have a bulletproof engine and now you can be rest assured that it has been cared for. Really no expense has been spared when it comes to the maintenance of this car.

The seller cares so much for this vehicle that he will have it reviewed by Hillier Hill Bentley specialists before the end of the auction, so the new owner can enjoy the car as much as he has enjoyed.

Please note the current private reg plate is not included in the sale, and the reg plate will be reverted to "P874 RUL"

The Interior

The original interior was Wildberry Red and Sandstone, but the previous owner changed it to Navy blue and Sandstone, including all carpeting at an immense cost. He also added all the veneer cards.
When you sit in the cream leather seats you are taken into a different galaxy of comfort, these seats are in good condition with a few marks on the driver’s seat, but this should not detract from the comfort and opulence that these seats give you.
Within the boot you will find a wicker basket and within this there is an original Bentley car cover that will come with this car with the sale.  Do note that the trunk net is OEM
A few other little features throughout the cabin include the drilled aluminum pedals that are used to control the car, these are a nice little touch in the footwell. There are also two mirrors in the pillars of the rear cabin just so you can check how you look before you step out onto the red carpet.

The Exterior

The exterior has been through a transformation since the factory and is now presented in Peacock Blue. A beautiful dark blue that has so much depth to it in the sunlight, as you can see from the photos it is a very glossy finish having almost perfect reflections.
There are a few marks on the exterior, but this should not detract from the car overall. Where this car shines is inside the car and under the bonnet with the recent works.
Another key feature on the exterior which just shows how much the current owner cares and understands about the car is the addition of modern Michelins on all corners to help with traction and stopping ability. This is said to have a vast improvement on the drivability and safety of this Brooklands.

The Mechanics

The Mechanical parts are where this Brookland’s will run rings around the rest on the market. The current owner has cared so much for this car, having the guys at Hillier Hill look after the car when any parts have needed to be replaced.

The recent £27,000 invoice is for major mechanical work, the main part of this bill was preventative replacements (such as fuel pump, various leaks, brakes, full service including flush of all fluids and change of spark plugs, new steering rack) and to rectify saggy front suspension (new front shock absorbers) which means this car's suspension system is as good as when it left the factory and it also means the car sits at the correct height all the way round.
The current owner knows a lot about Bentleys and it’s because of this knowledge that this car is now to the high standard it is presented in. In addition to the extensive mechanical work, the headlamp, AC, seat and alarm ECUs have been replaced along with all fuses and deep cleaning of the fuse box electrical connections just to make sure that you can enjoy the car without worrying about electrical issues.
With all of this work you are getting as close as possible to a brand new 1997 Bentley Brooklands you can get in 2021.  Since its arrival in the UK the vehicle has travelled around 9,900 miles trouble free across Europe.

The Appeal

This Bentley Brooklands really does speak for itself. With thanks to the previous owners and their love for this car you can be sure that you, the next owner, are getting a Brookland’s that is basically brand new. With the most recent £27,000 invoice and approximately £26,500 of invoices during 6 years in Hong Kong you'll going to get one of the best Bentley Brooklands you'll ever come across.

It never failed a MOT and it had a lot of work carried out due to the obsessive nature of the current owner who wanted reliability and perfection.

With the love, care and attention given to this Bentley it is one to keep an eye on because whether you are nipping to the shops or going on cross continental road trips you can be sure that this Bentley will take you there in style, comfort and quicker than any other means of transportation. Due to the effortlessness that is involved in driving this car you will get out at the other end feeling like you have just set off.

You can be sure that the next owner is going to get a well looked after car for a fraction of the price of the maintenance bills.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
