The Background

The Harley-Davidson Softail Springer is a retro styled Harley based on the FXST Softail. A bare bones but appealing cruiser which evokes Harley’s post war years.

The ‘Springer’ front Forks - hence the name -are modelled on the 1948 model but the rest of the Harley-Davidson Softail Springer was relatively modern in 1988 when the model was introduced.

The History

The current owner bought this Springer in 2016 as a one owner bike with 23,000 miles on it from the Harley Davidson main dealer at Aylesford, and the MOTs show it has only ridden a few hundred miles a year since then.

He has a number of other bikes and has decided to downsize his collection and concentrate on restoring an older bike.

The Paperwork

Although the bike has a full Harley Davidson history, the service book was unfortunately lost by the main dealer when they moved showrooms while the bike was for sale at the time the current owner bought it.

However they have vouched it had been in for all required services and has been serviced by independent specialist V Twin in Rye since then, who inspected it and noted the only fault they could find was the reflector on the back wasn’t quite central!

The Exterior

In keeping with the post war retro styling, this Springer has been customised with plenty of chrome extras. Triple Harley headlamps adorn the front and there is an art deco style marker light on the front fender (although this has never worked according to the owner).

The chromed finished engine is housed in a contrasting black frame, and the extensive bright work is all immaculate, you can see it has been very well kept. The forks also stand-out from the crowd in a lovely chrome finish.

The silver and black paint is almost flawless, we didn't spot many blemishes as we looked around it, just a small chip on the rear mudguard and one on the front mud guard support frame.

At the back there are the original leather pannier bags, complete with full tassels, which are often cut off or worn, but these are all there.

Mechanics

Last MOT’d in April, passing with no advisories. The owner rebuilt the carburettor in June using new seals and rubber parts so should be safe with ethanol fuel.
The white wall tyres have good tread and the battery cranks the motor easily.

With only limited use the wear and tear items have lasted well and the owner is not aware of anything currently needing doing.

The appeal

To many, this is the iconic Harley Davidson bike, the V Twin, chrome and tassels are pure mid century Americana, and this has had some genuine Harley accessories scattered around it to enhance that look.

This is an immaculate bike in great condition and with low miles for the year.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

If your bid is below the reserve price you'll bid that amount if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a bid above the reserve we will only go up to the reserve price.
Once the reserve has been met C&C will make sure you are the highest bidder using the bidding increments stated below, keeping you in the lead up until your maximum bid.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000£100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000+ £500.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
