The Background

The first generation Boxster 986 made its debut in late 1996, with a mid-engined 2.5 litre flat-six cylinder engine, producing 204 bhp with 180 lb-ft torque.

The Boxster was an instant success with the public and people in the motoring world. It was described as a quick, nimble and affordable sports car, and still a Porsche. With the continued success, in 1999, Porsche increased the engine to a 2.7 litre, pushing the power to 220 bhp. This is the model we have here today.

The History

The seller of this 2001 Porsche Boxster has owned the car since 5th July 2016, and is just the second owner of this low mileage Boxster. It was originally sold by the local Porsche dealer, where it had been serviced many times, and they still remember the car because of the low miles and condition.
Purchased as a weekend only car, the seller has ensured it has been kept up to date with the service history and MOT’s, even with the lack of use, which is in fact the reason for the sale.  It has sat there covered up in the seller’s garage for most of the year and only covered 700 miles, which has been the story for the past couple of years.

The Paperwork

The V5 is present and shows 1 previous keeper for the Boxster.
The history for the Porsche is in excellent order, with plenty of stamps from main Porsche dealers and independent specialists. There are some previous MOT certificates and invoices for work carried out.
The owners handbooks are present for the car, including the service book, stereo and satellite navigation instructions, and the Porsche communication management CD, together with a book on the Boxster. The original spare keys which came with the car are still in the original packaging.
There is an MOT on the car which was carried out on 16th November 2020, at 28,071 miles.
Please note the registration currently on the car is not included with the sale. The original number the car was registered with is going back on, which is DK51 GKF.

The Interior

Inside, the Boxster is in superb condition. The trim chosen for this 2001 model is believed to be Nephrite Green leather with Alcantara centres to the seats, which as you can imagine is outstanding with just 28,750 miles showing on the odometer.
The dashboard is finished the same with a black facia. The instruments are nice and clean with no scratches to the faces. As you would expect, there is no real wear to the steering wheel.
The centre of the dash houses the radio cassette player and sat nav, all of which are reported to be working (the cassette has not been used for some time and there was no tape to test). The radio is also connected to a CD multichanger located under the bonnet. All the switches are working as they should and have no signs of any wear to them.
The carpets and door cards are excellent with no marks or scuffs. Under the bonnet houses the spare wheel which has never been fitted, there is also the jack and tool kit present. The carpet is all in stunning condition with no marks to mention. The boot, again, excellent! The carpet is perfect and there is an unopened cover for the hard top which is included.

The Exterior

Finished in the lovely Meridian Silver Metallic, this really is as good as you are going to get other than having a car repainted. There are very minimal stone chips to the front end, roughly around 10 should cover them, it really is that few.
The headlights are nice and bright, with no chips to them or any discolouration. The bonnet aligns up as it should, with an even panel gap, and further up, the windscreen is free from any chips.
The sides of the Boxster are flawless apart from one 10mm light scratch by the driver’s side air intake, and a small chip, but this is being very, very picky, it really is an immaculate car. The roof is nice and tight, with such little use, it is up all the time and covered up in the garage. This has made the material stay nice and crease free and in excellent condition. The rear window is the same, it is nice and clear with no scratches.
To the rear, the lights, like the front, are free from any chips, and the boot lid aligns as it should. There are no scuffs or chips that we could see.
The wheels are the originals, again in excellent condition. Being picky, if you had to mention it, there are one or two corrosion marks to the edge of the spokes, but not really noticeable. The tyres are 2 x continental and 2 x Dunlop, all of which have lots of tread remaining.

The Mechanics

With this being a 2001 Porsche Boxster, it is fitted with the larger 2.7 litre flat-six engine that produces 220 bhp, and this is coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
The engine fires up perfectly with no hesitation and sounds fantastic when a few revs are given. There are no unwanted noises to be heard. The seller reports the gear change is smooth and crisp and the car pulls strongly through all the gears as it should.
The handling on the Boxster can only be described as fun. The near perfect balance makes it agile and nimble around the twisty bits, with no noises reported to be coming from the suspension or transmission. It's time to get out and have some fun.

The Appeal

This is a car with only 1 previous owner and has extremely low mileage for the year. A car which has been regularly serviced, despite the lack of use. In stunning condition throughout there is no better time to step into the world of affordable Porsches, (of which there are not many to choose from).
Perfect for the summer months with the roof down, going for a blast down the twisty B roads. You won’t be able to help yourself but to have fun in this superbly presented Boxster.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
