2002 Honda S2000

Highlights

• A hard to find very honest example with low mileage for the year having averaged less than 5K miles per year
• Full documented maintenance history giving the new owner additional peace of mind
• Great looking SSW 18-inch split rim alloy wheels all with good tyres

The Background

The S2000 was first hinted at by the SSM (Sport Study Model) Honda concept car of 1995’s Tokyo Motor Show. Unusually, for concept cars, the S2000 that appeared in 1999, to coincide with Honda’s 50th anniversary, remained impressively faithful to the SSM. It had lost a cylinder in the process, however. The SSM was a five-cylinder car.

The technical tour-de-force that is the 1,997cc inline four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC F20C engine, remains an eye-opener even 22 years on from its introduction. Peak power of around 240bhp arrives at a spine tingling 8,600 rpm, 400 rpm ahead of the redline. It is no surprise, then, that the F20C engine won International Engine of the Year for 1.8 to 2.2-liter engines five times in its lifetime.

The History

The current owner has been enjoying this blue S2000 for over three years now and admits that the car still puts a smile on his face every time he drives it. Originally acquired as part of a business deal, he admits that he originally planned to sell the car straight on but it very quickly won him round so he kept it.

The car’s combination of awesome, high-revving hero engine, the very easy to deploy electric hood and surprising practicality of the car proved a winning combination for him. It is only now that lack of use has prompted the owner to look for the car’s next lucky owner.

The Paperwork

The all-important fully stamped Honda service history is available with the car as are a host of other documents and accompaniments including two keys, original book pack and invoices and paperwork covering incidental maintenance, MOT’s etc.

The Interior

The interior appears unmarked and presents in very attractive “black on black” with black perforated leather seats and black wool carpets. The dashboard appears un marked and the various switches and gauges all appeared to work as expected.

The digital dash would have been positively space-age back at launch in 1999. It has stood the test of time very well and still appears quite modern and unusual. The 9,000 rpm red line is, of course, hard to ignore and everything seemed to work as expected when we observed the car running.
The car also benefits from a Thatcham Cat 1 Proximity Alarm which not only provides additional peace of mind but may also result in cheaper insurance premiums with certain providers.

The Exterior

Our photographic package backs up how well presented the blue metallic bodywork presents. The bodywork is free from obvious dings or dents and the panel gaps are narrow and symmetrical on all panels. The paintwork is deep and lustrous. There are one or two small areas of paint flaking which are small and noticeable only upon close inspection.

The blue / black hood appears to be in great condition and compliments they metallic blue colourway perfectly. It works very effectively and quickly (under 10 seconds) and we were able to witness its operation during our visit. The SSW, split-rim 18” alloys and contrasting red callipers set this car off perfectly ensuring this S2000 turns heads on a regular basis.

The Mechanics

The VTEC engines in the S2000 were not only lauded back at the car’s launch but have gone on to prove very robust and reliable indeed. Add to this a full and regular service history and you have a car here which is reported to be mechanically excellent.

The current owner has kept up the previous owners’ record of “as-required” maintenance and the car has benefitted from recent expenditure in addition to servicing to include a new battery, two new tyres and a new brake calliper.

The Appeal

We believe that this car represents a lot of sports car for the money. It presents in excellent condition throughout and has that award winning 9,000 rpm VTEC hero-engine at its heart.

Add to that the low mileage, original unmolested condition and full service history and the new owner will have a very exciting car on their hands that has many years of reliable and thrilling service ahead of it.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
