2002 Jaguar XKR convertible

Highlights

• A beautifully presented, continent-crossing British sports car
• Professionally refurbished BBS made, split-rim “Detroit” 20 inch Jaguar alloy wheels
• Maintained regardless of cost throughout its life

The Background

The Jaguar XK is a two-door 2+2 grand tourer manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars from 1996–2014 in coupé and convertible body styles. The XKR joined the range in 1998 to bring a high-performance derivative to the range.

This was achieved by adding an Eaton supercharger to the 32 valve, 4.0 litre V8 engine. The supercharger itself boasted a 2.0L capacity and delivering a shade under 12Ibs of boost. This was enough to unleash a mighty 370bhp. These later 4L cars got all the mechanical enhancements of the later 4.2L version, steel lines and uprated timing for example, without some of the issues that the later engines suffered. Very much a range sweet-spot in our opinion.

The History

The car has had a total of five owners during its life, who have averaged a very moderate 6,000 miles or so per year.

The current owner has kept the XKR regularly used but whilst doing a very low milage, just an average of 1,285 miles per year in his ownership. With a proud history of Jaguar ownership, the current owner has ensured the car’s history of exemplary maintenance has been continued.

The Paperwork

The car comes with the current owner’s bills for over £8,500 in his ownership. These cover routine maintenance as well as items such as fuel pumps, boot electrics and new battery. Our photographic package includes examples of these as well as a range of bills from previous owners, tax disks and the like.
Perhaps most importantly there is the original service book literally filled with stamped service records from Jaguar dealers and independent specialists exclusively.

The Interior

The XKR’s pristine black leather interior is both sumptuous and fully appointed. There are all the toys on offer here including electric everything (seats, steering column, headrests) and very useful refinements such as full air-conditioning, original upgraded Alpine stereo and reverse parking sensors.

The blue mohair hood is fully electric and fully functional and there is also the original tonneau cover in the boot which fits in seconds to keep everything tidy.

The Exterior

As you will see from our photographic package, this is a very eye-catching car indeed. The combination of gleaming Gunmetal Grey paintwork and matching BBS Detroit 20” really make this car pop. The owner assures us that it is the subject of positive comment wherever they go.

Those special alloys have just been professionally refurbished so are literally unmarked and appear factory-fresh. They are a rare option for the XKR and really help to put this example above and beyond others. The paintwork has a high gloss finish to it and no areas of lacquer deterioration, dulling or crazing are obvious.

The Mechanics

There is a special engine nesting under that long, feline bonnet. The 4L AJ-V8 engine debuted in the XK8 and was already praised for its power, refinement, and relative economy. The addition of the large Eaton supercharger really is the icing on an already very tasty cake!

As you might expect from a car that has always been Jaguar dealer or specialist maintained all mechanical systems on this car are reported to work faultlessly.

The Appeal

The appeal of this car is very easy to quantify. A shapely British GT car with a powerful supercharged V8 under a long, curved bonnet is a great place to start, of course. Add in the rare and newly refurbished BBS Detroit alloys and the pristine blue mohair electric hood and it is clear there is something pretty special here.

Back this up with the reassurance of a full and copious maintenance history and you have a British hero car on your hands, ready to make many new memories for the luck new owner.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
