2002 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2 Cabriolet

Highlights

・Ultimate Sports Cabriolet
・Complete with colour coded hard top
・GT3 exhaust system and rear wing

The Background:

The Porsche 3.6 flat six engine has a distinctive engine note, and for open air motoring its a pleasure to hear as you go through the gear changes, made ever easier with the tiptronic gearbox.
In the rare Lapis Blue metallic paintwork with matching cloth roof and hard top cover this cars character changes with the three different looks available, plus the styling pack fitted when ordered new gives this a distinctive look from a standard 996.

The Paperwork:

With a full Porsche dealer and specialist service history the car has been looked after mechanically all its life. A recent MOT in January 2021 and receipts for ignition switch sticking, new oxygen sensor, catalytic converter work recently in April 2021 amounting to more than £4000 you can tell that the owner has looked after the car just like its previous drivers.
All manuals, folders are present along with two keys and radio code, both fobs work perfectly.

The Interior:

German engineering and design means that the interior has help up well for its twenty years, the only visible damage we could see is on the drivers seat bolster where there is a small hole on the leather which would need a trimmer to rectify. Leather other wise is good and rear sets look like they have had very little use, carpets are clean and free of any wear.
All electrics work, including the memory seats, heated seats, radio and roof is fully operational with no noise from the motor or hesitancy in operation. The car has the Porsche CDR22 head unit, again fully functioning through all speakers. Spare wheel is present with cover in the boot area.

The Exterior:

Tyres have recently been fitted and are Pirelli P. Zero, a favourite of the Porsche brand. The alloy wheels are all clean with the exception of a very light scuff mark on the front near side wheel. Brakes are new and are an upgrade from the standard Porsche discs, having recently been replaced at a cost of over £1500.
The blue fabric hood is in good condition, with just a slight rip on the bottom right hand side off side area and small crease on the near side rear of the fabric, photos show the wear.
The framework around the hood does require attention, notably along the bottom of the lip which has paint chips along the edging.
Some lacquer is chipped along the edges of the bumpers, close ups are shown in the photo gallery, these are not visible from distance but on closer inspection. The edging of the sill where the roof sits is showing wear but did not cause any issues when the roof was in operation.
The additional hard top is in excellent condition and has no marks on the heated glass area, we suspect it has seen very little use.
From new the original owner specced this car with the additional side skirts, GT3 rear spoiler and this for us sets the car off perfectly, especially in the beautiful Lapis Blue paintwork.

The Mechanics:

With a full Porsche dealer and specialist service history the car has been looked after from day one by all owners, the seller uses it as a daily driver and has not spared any expense on the car when it has needed anything rectifying.
The 3.6 engine idles perfectly and with the GT3 exhaust system fitted the creamy engine note is lifted to a racier soundtrack. The car also has a K & N filter fitted.

The Appeal:

The Porsche 911 is the ultimate sports car, and in the cabriolet version with that GT3 rear spoiler this Carrera derivative stands out from the crowd, it has practicality with the rear seats and that decent sized front boot.
The 996 derivative took a while to be accepted into the traditionalists 911owners, but with values rising and a model with history, some individuality and open top driving for the summer we feel that this Carrera is a great investment, whether its an addition to the garage or your first step in to the marque you won’t find a more genuine and honest version out there.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
