A front mid engine, rear wheel drive Roadster was always going to be a good recipe for a car, and the Mazda MX5 hasn't disappointed, right from the off, with its 50/50 weight distribution. Launched in 1989 at the Chicago Motor show, the model has become the best selling two seater sports cabriolet in sports car history.
The first generation was produced up until 1997, fitted with the 1.6 litre, four cylinder engine, there were over 400,000 units produced. The very cool 80’s/90’s pop up headlights make the Roadster instantly recognisable. With the second generation, such as the one we have here, the power was given a slight increase and the cool pop up headlights were replaced with fixed units, due to the car not meeting pedestrian safety tests. The Mx5 still retained the famous handling characteristics and continued to use either the 1.6 litre producing 125 bhp, or the 1.8 litre producing 146 bhp.
The seller of this 2004 Mazda MX5 Euphonic has owned the car since April 2021. He purchased the car from a gentleman who had been a customer for many years. The MX5 was bought new by the gentleman in 2004, and since then he has clearly given it very little use. So little in fact, that the car has only covered 6,935 miles. Yes, you did read that right! Also, to top things off, the car has never been used in the wet. The underside is still very factory fresh and has not received any cleaning, it is just how it has been kept.
Owning such a low mileage and original car was the perfect idea, but unfortunately the seller already has another 2 seater convertible which is in use, and he basically doesn't want to use the MX5 because it’s so original, and feels it would be a shame to start using it as a regular car. He would much rather it go to an enthusiast who will treasure and pamper the low mileage roadster.
With such low miles and extremely little use, the MX5 has only been serviced 3 times, with the most recent one carried out just a few weeks ago. A good thing to mention is that there is a genuine Mazda service kit included with the car for the new owner.
The original bill of sale is there, including the pre-delivery inspection form, and as you would expect, the service booklet together with all the owners manuals and instructions for the radio are present. There is also plenty of reading material on the MX5 with the books that are included.
Inside, the Mazda MX5 Euphoric is a comfortable place to be, with the nice little touches Mazda introduced for this special model. The heated seats are in red and black leather with matching door panels, and as you would expect for the mileage, the seats are in excellent condition. There is also the Euphoric leather red stitched steering wheel, gear gaiter and handbrake grip, which again are all in lovely order. The carpets are excellent with the original Euphoric mats fitted to protect them, and are also in amazing condition.
Sitting in the driver's seat, the white dial instruments, (another Euphoric touch), face you, with no warning lights displayed and all working just as they should. The odometer is showing the incredibly low 6,935 miles. The carbon fibre effect centre console is as to be expected, with no wear to it. For your entertainment the special edition Euphoric came with a Sony CD head unit with a boot mounted changer. The stereo is also remote control, and yes, the remote is present. This is connected to the six speaker Sony set up, which sounds fantastic.
In the boot could be described as looking like new. The carpet is excellent and underneath is the never fitted spare wheel, together with the wheel brace and jack sitting in the immaculate boot floor.
This stunning low mileage MX5 is finished in the striking Velocity Red, which is one of the four colours to choose from in the Euphoric range.
Starting at the front of the Japanese classic, the bumper is in excellent condition with no noticeable stone chips to mention, and as you would expect, this lines up straight and even with the edge of the bonnet. There are two small chips to the bonnet which have been touched in with a touch up pen. The windscreen and seal are in good order and the roof sits nice and tight with the top of the screen.
Around to the sides, again the lines are superb with nothing to mention in the way of any damage to the body at the time of our visit. The Euphonic badges sit proudly just below the side repeater on the wings.
To the rear, and there are no scuffs to the bumpers and the lights are in good condition with the badges bright and clean. The MX5 is also wearing the original dealer number plate.
The roof is in stunning condition and has quite obviously not been taken up and down a great deal in its life. This can be covered with a tonneau cover which is present and correct.
Another Euphoric touch are the 16” alloy wheels which are finished in a Titanium paint finish. The front nearside wheel unfortunately has had a bit of a scuff, which was an argument with a low kerb. This has been sanded down by the previous keeper but not painted. The seller didn’t want to paint the wheel, he would rather sell it as a car that has never been touched.
The underside of the Mazda is in excellent condition. The seller and the previous owner are reported to never have taken the car out in the wet, and this appears to be quite evident when you view the underside, as it really is that good, with no corrosion to be found on the sills or the suspension components. There is some dust in the engine bay and this is purely because the seller doesn’t want to wash it in case of tarnishing the original gold brackets and bolts.
The car has only 6,935 miles, and so the engine is only just starting it’s life of many miles. There have been 3 services carried out with the most recent one, as mentioned, just a few weeks ago. Flick the key and the 1600 cc twin cam fires up straight away, with no hesitation. No untoward noises can be heard and it is reported to run perfectly.
Driving down the road in the nippy Roadster is plenty of fun. The car has nimble handling and is a pleasure to drive both around town and taking it out for a blast down the twisty country lanes. The gear change is reported to be precise and smooth, with the car pulling well through the five-speed gearbox.
A very rare chance to own this special edition 2 seater Roadster, with just 6,935 miles on the clock. The car has been cared for by one owner since 2004, when it was then sold due to lack of use, clearly seen by the lack of miles.
Just 2000 Euphoric models were made from 2004, making them quite a rare model MX5, with a few nice extras included. The next question is who is going to take over the ownership of this truly original and stunning MX5 Euphoria.
