RESERVE LOWERED! - 2004 Mercedes CL500 V8 Auto

・5 litre V8
・ Low mileage
・Active body control suspension
・Soft close doors
・AMG sports pack

The Background

The Mercedes CL was in production from 1992 until 2013 (Europe) and was known as a fast luxury coupe/cruiser.

This particular example is a second generation version and is designated as a C215, it came with a 5 litre V8 and a 7 speed auto box through which the 302bhp is delivered which results in the vehicle having to be electrically restrained to 155MPH.

It's comfortable, classy and even in today's market its speed and power is not to be sniffed at.

The History

The current owner purchased the car from a collector who was looking to downsize his holdings. He has very much enjoyed his time with it but now a change of job due to the Covid Virus which comes with a company car means the CL500 won’t see much action so it is up for sale.

The Paperwork

The V5 is present as is a plethora of old MOT certificates. The current MOT expires on 17 February 22.

Also present are a number of major invoices, a full service book with the command owner’s manual, “CL class in brief” pamphlet, the CL owner’s manual, leather Mercedes handbook holder and 2 keys including the car's locking wheel nut key.

The car has 9 service stamps in the book, 4 Mercedes, 1 Mercedes independent , 2 independent and 2 F.Howkin where the recent work has been undertaken.

F. Howkins and sons at Lutterworth have completed the last 2 services,

The Interior

Being the top of the range CL500 the car has a cream coloured full leather interior and benefits from soft close doors. The dash is even leather clad.

The interior shows a few minor areas of wear and a few scuffs on the plastic seat bases (pictured) but overall for a 17 year old car it is in good condition.

There is a navigation unit in the boot which powers the wide screen sat nav in the dash. There is also a period car phone under the arm rest.

The car also has Bluetooth handsfree fitted and the Air conditioning is ice cold.

The parking sensors can be intermittent and the driver’s door card has faded which could be repainted if the new owner wishes to correct it.

The Exterior

The car polishes up well and is always a joy when clean especially in black, the car is the facelift model so benefits from the later rear lights.

The staggered fitment, 8.5 inch wide front and 9 inch wide rear alloy wheels are in excellent condition as are the tyres.

There are a few minor blemishes around the vehicle as to be expected with a vehicle of this age but as previously mentioned it has spent time in a collection hence the mileage being low and the overall condition a reflection of the low miles, it really is a class act.

The Mechanics

Mechanically the car has been well serviced and maintained as the service record shows.

Recently it has had a pair of genuine new front suspension control arms. These are heavy cars and have complex suspension with it being hydraulic, this work was completed on 18/2/21 at 89,306 miles, bill with invoice of £750.85

The car has also had a replacement ABC suspension pump and PAS oil on 21/10/2020 at the cost of £1207.39 from star motors Leicester ltd a independent Mercedes Benz service centre mileage was 87,565.

This is very important to note as the suspension works correctly in all modes (comfort/sport and lift) it operates smoothly and at pace just how it should, the suspension system on this vehicle is notoriously complicated and can be very expensive if it develops a fault so the fact that this car benefits from a system that is fully functional and has recently been overhauled is a massive plus point.

Evidence of each mode has been provided in the pictures.

The 7 speed auto box is smooth and the 302hp is delivered smoothly with no awkward knocks or bangs. This vehicle is a cruiser and it does that very well.

The Appeal

Mercedes are renowned for making comfortable business class cruisers that can eat up the miles on the autobahn or cruise across continents without even breaking a sweat.

The CL500 V8 is just such a car and even now at 17 years old this car will turn heads as it’s a class act. Due to its age and it being pre 2006 it sits in a lower tax bracket also which means the road tax is only £290 a year which for a 302 BHP V8 isn’t bad at all.

If you're in the market for a low mileage, well cared for V8 cruiser in the right colour , this one has to be worth a serious look, it’s a hell of a lot of car!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

If your bid is below the reserve price you'll bid that amount if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a bid above the reserve we will only go up to the reserve price.
Once the reserve has been met C&C will make sure you are the highest bidder using the bidding increments stated below, keeping you in the lead up until your maximum bid.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000£100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000+ £500.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
