2005 Mazda MX-5

The Background

The NB Mazda MX5 also known as the Mk2 MX5 retained the same ethos as the original Mk1 – a front engine, rear drive, 50:50 weight distribution and double-wishbone/coil-spring suspension all round – a modern Lotus Elan. The NB gained a few handling upgrades over its predecessor and a 10% hike in power making for a more engaging and rewarding drive. The MX5 has always been class leading in driving dynamics
The real stand out specification on this car is the stunning black cherry mica paint work. A rarely optioned colour from new. There is currently only one other on the market on Auto Trader at the time of writing however it does not compare to this one in terms of condition, mileage and provenance.

The History

This MX5 retains a great, and comprehensive History. This example has 14 MOT certificates from new to warrant the mileage. This MX5 boasts a well-documented history with all works completed on the vehicle over its life. The first couple of services in the car’s life were undertaken at a Mazda dealership, from there on the services have been completed at local specialist and independent garages with invoices to back this. However, these services completed outside the dealer network have not been stamped due to the owner forgetting to take the book to be stamped. The car benefits from a new anti-roll bar linkage which was completed on its last MOT. The steering once again feels scalpel sharp. This Mazda has spent 90% of its life garaged and has paid dividends to the chassis and paintwork. The chassis has never been welded, a rare sight even on lower mileage cars and the paintwork has been routinely ceramic coated for the past two years to keep the paintwork protected. The car has seen very little mileage over its life, however has been thoroughly enjoyed in the last year before its sale and managed to cover 6000 miles between its last MOTs. This MX5 has had 3 previous owners from new, in which the last three were lady owners and has always lived in the Somerset area.

The Paperwork

This Mazda has a great provenance and boasts a lot of documentation including all owners’ manuals, lots of service and maintenance invoices, service book, old V5s from previous owners and 2 keys.

The car also has the full toolkit present.

The Interior

The interior is in a very minimalist black, suiting its focused design. The black interior certainly compliments the exterior Black Cherry Mica paint code well making for a smart and sophisticated colour combination. The interior is pretty much immaculate and in like new condition. The seats are in great condition and the fabric grips well with minimal wear. All touch points are good too.

The car is completely original, as you can see from the correctly specced radio that is in fully functioning order. Even the antenna still automatically operates.

The Exterior

The exterior on the whole is in great condition and the paint work is bright. This MX5 also features a matching hardtop. A hard to come by extra and is well worth having when driving at this time of year. The hard top is in immaculate condition and has meant the fabric roof has been hidden away from the elements so this too is immaculate. The wheels on the whole are in good condition however do suffer with a tiny amount of paint flake and there are a few car park dings and marks on the doors. Both are not uncommon for a car of this age.

The Appeal

On the whole, These MX5s have had and always will have a strong following but the interest for the NB is certainly on the rise. Finding a good one is forever getting harder and harder with many having undergone welding, or been heavily abused with poor history making this black cherry one an interesting proposition. This MX5 would be suitable for the driving enthusiast, collector, or investor that wants to keep some money safe. These NBs are a blast down a country road and very enjoyable to pilot. Many cars can’t get close to the handling feel of a lovely, lightweight 2 seater Mazda MX5 and I would heavily recommend trying one if you haven’t already.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
