• Rare Bertone Exclusive
• Two tone interior
• 4 new tyres
• Cambelt and waterpump done in Oct 2020
Designed and built by Gruppo Bertone, an Italian automotive coachbuilding, car styling and manufacturing company founded in Northern Italy in 1912, as well as having the chassis tuned by Lotus, the Astra G platform really stood in a league of its own. Bertone exclusive Astra’s are becoming more and more scarce, especially in good condition.
Originally registered in June 2005, and having a total of 4 previous owners, the Astra appears to have been very well cared for. Bertone exclusive Astra’s are becoming quite a rare sight on the road today, as only the coupe and the convertible variants were available. This particular Bertone has a rather desirable specification including a special order paint colour, two tone leather and cloth sports seats, upgraded alloy wheels, and a blue retractable roof lining.
It may be noted that in 2008 the posted MOT certificate causes discrepancies with mileage - however we are told this is due to the MOT garage making an error and it was fixed in 2009.
Included with the vehicle is a nice bundle of invoices and receipts, as well as relevant MOT certificates and the vehicle logbook. The V5C is also available with the vehicle and ready to be transferred over to the new owner.
Spec’d with a two tone interior, black leather with blue cloth sports seats, the interior of this Astra is quite a nice place to be.
The front seats themselves appear to be in good overall condition with no rips or tears throughout, all of the stitching is still intact and even the leather bolsters are very well presented with no horrible cracks or fading as you’d expect there to be, just the usual small creases that leather gains over the years of use and a small amount of wear at the edge of the drivers side bolster, but this is minimal.
The rear seats are very much the same if not better, showcasing little signs of use with no leather stretching or tears, and the cloth portions are all very well kept too.
The steering wheel does show its signs of use with some wear around the leather portion of the rim, which is almost unavoidable and to be completely expected. The gauges still function as they should with all of the numbers and marking readable and no unwelcome warning signs present on the dash.
Throughout the dashboards control panel all of the symbols and text are still visible with no real fading, and all of the controls still function well including the radio and air conditioning. The gearstick gaiter does have some wear, the leather portions are bad for degrading over time due to the constant movement however it is a very easy fix and very inexpensive if you wish to do so. The gear knob itself is in good condition and the gear pattern is still easily visible.
All of the carpets front and rear are present and in good shape with no excessive wear marks, no rips, and seemingly no stains or bad colour fading present. A very nicely presented car within the cabin - evidence that the vehicle has been well cared for through its previous ownerships.
In the boot space, the story remains much the same. Not much signs of use and the boot floor is in good condition as is the surrounding plastics, which are normally a very high wear area. There is of course some scratching as always on the plastic portion closest to the bumper around the latch, however this is precisely what this trim piece was designed for, to take a beating.
Thanks to the Italian auto-stylists, Bertone, working their magic throughout the vehicle, this astra is quite the looker. Finished in a desirable Silver Metallic factory paint job which still contains high levels of gloss, you’d be fooled into thinking the car wasn’t actually 16 years old! At the front of the vehicle the front bumper does contain the usual signs of stone chips and the headlight lenses are very slightly starting to fade, however some minor polishing work can bring these back with ease. The front grill is still present and the Vauxhall emblem doesn’t show any signs or peeling or corrosion. The front wings and bonnet appear to be in good condition showcasing no signs of rust which is excellent.
The doors are still aligned properly and open and close with ease as you’d expect, and appear to be in good shape with no apparent damage, the same goes for the plastic trim which runs along the middle of the door and the side skirts too. The Bertone emblems are still present in the OEM positions. The retractable roof remains functional, operated by a button on the centre console, and remains water right with no rips or tears throughout the material.
All four wheels appear to be in very nice condition with only some very minor grazes on the outer rim of the front wheels, however they appear to be touched in and are barely noticeable, you have to actively look for them to find any faults here. The wheels have also been wrapped in brand new PowerTrac 215/45/R17 tyres all round!
To the rear of the car, the tail lights still function properly and the lenses do not show any signs of damage or fading, and the Vauxhall badge and model designation is still present and in good condition seemingly showing no signs of corrosion or peeling. The rear bumper nicely presented also with no signs of scuffs or other damages overall. A very tidy and honest car, inside and out!
This Bertone Astra is powered by a 1.8L I4 petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission, producing 120bhp and 123lb/ft of torque, plenty of power for any daily commute as well as town and city driving while retaining a good return on fuel economy, too. The gearbox is smooth with no crunches or annoying notches, and the engine fires up at the turn of a key ready to go.
We’re told there are no unwelcome knocks or bangs while driving and the vehicle remains a very comfortable place to be - especially with the addition of having the top down on those warm days! Thanks to the chassis being tuned by Lotus, the automakers who are extremely well known for making some of the best handling cars in the world, this Astra is quite surprising at handling its own weight in the corners. It’s not one to shy away from some backroad fun.
Over the years this Astra has been well maintained in terms of servicing, and has recently had a new cambelt and water pump fitted in October 2020 at 77,277 miles which is a great bit of maintenance and a necessity at that mileage, so the new owner can rest assured this has been taken care of and they won’t have to fork out for those service items.
A somewhat rare and desirable modern classic, Bertone exclusive Astra’s are few and far between - especially finding one in good condition that has been cared for over the years. It’s refreshing seeing one in such a well kept condition that hasn’t been hidden away from the world - and we hope it’ll stay that way ready for new adventures with its new owner!
