The Background

The Jaguar S-Type was launched in March 1999 to a broadly appreciative press. In production until 2007, the S Type's design has matured to most eyes.  Its understated curves and lines have a retro appeal, and there are definite influences from the original 1963 Jaguar S Type around the nose and tail, but the overall effect is subtle and attractive.

The History

Supplied new by REG VARDY Jaguar on 10th November 2006 to the first private owner who kept and clearly cherished this stunning S Type for the first ten years until March 2016 and the second private registered keeper has owned the car until now. With eleven stamps in the service book from pre delivery inspection in November 2006 to January 2021 at just 48128 miles it has to be one of the nicest around.  In the past 18 months the Jaguar has covered a distance of just 1700 miles, so just enough to keep everything working nicely. Now the owner has reluctantly had to give up driving his precious Jaguar so it is being offered for sale.

The Paperwork

There is a file of invoices accompanying the Jaguar, with plenty to show regular care throughout its life.  There is a full Owners pack, including the important Service book. The previous MoT Certificate was not due to expire until Jan 2022. However prior to offering the Jaguar for sale the owner decided that the car will be sold with a new MoT which expires 22nd August 2022.

The Interior

Only upon particular close inspection of the interior would you discover that the Jaguar is not brand new.  The Champagne Beige leather is in excellent condition throughout.  We could only find one small scuff mark on the driver’s seat; apart from that the leather is unmarked.  The carpets are clean, as is the headliner.  The wood veneer dash has a good lustre and shine.  The factory option SatNav screen is functioning well, as were all the other switches and buttons.  The boot is similarly clean, not a mark on the carpet.  Underneath the boot floor there is an unused spare with all the tools and a new looking battery.  A quick glance at the photographs will reveal how well preserved the interior is, so no nasty surprises here!

The Exterior

Finished in the rare optional colour Prism Blue Metallic the S Type positively glows in the sunlight, with an almost iridescent sparkle.  Sitting on 17 inch Antares 15 spoke alloys the Jaguar looks the business.  Upon close inspection it is as unmarked on the outside as the interior. The only faults we spotted were some small blisters on the passenger side sill in the door shut and a missing front fog light.  The seller says he will supply a replacement light with the car upon sale.

The glass is all clear with no chips or scratches, as are the headlight and tail light assemblies.  The wheels are in reasonable condition, with only one of the rims showing noticeable curb marks.  The tyres are Westlakes on the front, and Matador Vectora 2s on the rear; all are only lightly worn.

The paintwork on the front of the Jaguar appears to be remarkably free of stone chips that would suggest it has not had extensive motorway use.

The Mechanics

With such an extensive service history the seller tells us that the Jaguar is running beautifully having covered a mere 106 miles since its last service, fluid change and MoT test.  Under the bonnet there is very little that gives away the age of the car.  The alloy intake manifold shows some white deposits on the alloy that would clean off with a little effort.  Apart from that you’d be forgiven for thinking it was only a few months old.  With no evidence of drips or leaks everything appears to be in excellent condition and the Jaguar is reported to drive beautifully.

The Appeal

The S Type is rapidly becoming recognised as the luxurious mile muncher it is. With 250bhp, full leather and all the goodies they are exceptionally good value.  This one ticks all the boxes and is sure to provide its new owner many miles in complete luxury for a tiny sum!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
