The Background

Produced to celebrate the success of the Range Rover totalling up 35 years of continuous production across all models, these ultra-rare 35th anniversary special editions were limited to just 35 examples, and represent one of the rarest road-going Range Rovers that you can buy.

Based upon the 4.2-litre Supercharged V8 Vogue SE model, the Anniversary editions feature an incredibly high specification from standard, including the full TV/DVD system, rear entertainment setup, 6-CD multi changer and even adaptive Xenon headlights.

All 35 cars were finished in special-edition Anniversary Claret, with a two tone Claret and Black interior, featuring Carmine lambswool over-mats for all footwells.

The 400bhp, 4.2-litre supercharged Jaguar V8 engine provided the car with plenty of power to shift its might from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, which is mightily impressive for a vehicle that weighs upwards of 2.5 tons. Fitted with the six-speed ZF gearbox but sadly missing out on the widely-acclaimed Terrain Response system, the 35th Anniversary editions were still fitted with high and low-range gearing, along with an intelligent hill descent control system.

The History

This particular car is number 13 of 35 built, and has been in the vendor’s family since 2017. During this time, the vendor used the car on a regular basis for the first few years, putting around 15,000 miles on the odometer thanks to shuttling up-and-down the country to various appointments.

Since the tail end of 2019, this Range Rover has only seen minimal use on account of the vendor retiring, and of course the various ‘lockdowns’ that took place throughout 2020, though the car was regularly warmed up and driven a short distance just to maintain the fine mechanical condition.

During the last four years, the car has benefitted from rigorous servicing and maintaining irrespective of cost, and as the vendor states, it has been left “wanting for nothing” which is an excellent sign. That’s not to say that much has been carried out, however. The majority of the financial outlay has been on the usual consumable items, including a full set of nearly new Pirelli tyres.

The Paperwork

Supplied with the vehicle is a sensible file of history including past MOT certificates, health checks from Land Rover, invoices and other documentation. The servicing record is fully stamped and complete, and the vehicle also comes with a copy of a Land Rover Owner’s magazine which it has been featured in. The V5 shows 3 owners prior to the vendor, and the full set of Land Rover dealer literature is present.

The Interior

The interior presents in absolutely fantastic condition, especially considering the age and mileage of the vehicle. There are a few minor signs of wear to the leather seats, in particular the driver’s seat, and the leather arm rest on the driver’s door card shows a few marks which are commensurate with the vehicle’s age.

The rear seats, front passenger seat, carpets and headlining are all in excellent condition barring a small mark on the rear nearside passenger seat, and you’d be forgiven for mistaking this example to be several years newer than the registration suggests. The special-edition lambswool mats are in pristine condition, and have never been used, having been kept out of sunlight and in the original dealer bags for most of their life.

During the vendor’s ownership, the reversing camera has been replaced with a genuine OEM Land Rover part at great expense, in order to retain the original of the vehicle.

Two sets of Land Rover-branded headphones are supplied to work with the rear seat entertainment system, along with the 35th Anniversary literature case finished in Claret leather.

The Exterior

The exterior Claret Anniversary paintwork looks to be in absolutely fantastic condition throughout, with only the usual expected smattering of stone chips to the front end.

During their ownership, the vendor has had the rear bumper, rear spoiler and bonnet vent repainted due to lacquer peel occurring, which is a common problem on Range Rovers of this era. The results are very good indeed, with no obvious signs of the respray having been carried out, such is the quality of the paintwork. There is a minor patch of lacquer peel  on the offside rear door along the window rubber, though this is only visible upon close inspection.

All four wheels are shod in matching Pirelli tyres, and the wheels all exhibit very minor kerbing damage or stone chips. While they certainly still present well, fastidious owners would likely have them refurbished in order to bring them in line with the rest of the vehicle.

The Mechanicals

Mechanically, we are informed that this Range Rover is in rude health, with no reported issues whatsoever. The 4.2-litre Supercharged engine will happily start, idle and run with no problems, and the six-speed ZF transmission is working just as Land Rover intended, with silky smooth shifts both up and down the ‘box.

The brakes are all in good condition, and do not pull to one side or cause any vibration under heavy braking. The full service history suggests that this special-edition Range Rover has always been cared for, both by the current and previous owners.

The Appeal

The Range Rover is a car that enjoys enduring appeal across all models and all aspects of society. For those looking for something a little more exclusive, this 1-of-35 special 35th Anniversary Edition model presents a wonderful opportunity to own a rare and coveted special edition.

Presenting in outstanding condition and with a full service history and plethora of other paperwork, this is a wonderful example of the desirable 35th Anniversary edition, and we expect it will certainly prove popular with bidders.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
