The Background

BMW have long claimed they build the ultimate driving machines. This 335i may well be that, but it also may be the ultimate daily driver. Performance car pace wrapped up in the stylish body of the E90 generation 3-Series.

The 335i was first introduced in 2006, as BMW’s first production turbocharged 3-Series. It offered consumers power that was previously reserved for cars wearing an M-badge in a much more unassuming outfit.

This Touring specifically is finished in a deep and rich shade of Sapphire Black, which is complimented by its BMW M wheels, privacy glass and black trim. The optional M-Sport package provides sportier suspension and styling, whilst retaining the ride and comfort you’d expect of such a luxury vehicle.

The History

The current owner is just the 2nd owner in this 335i’s life. The first owned the car from new, maintaining, up until the most recent services, a full BMW service history.

As a BMW enthusiast the current owner, who also owns another E90 generation 335i, couldn’t turn away the opportunity to own what is considered quite a rare beast. But keeping two very similar cars is a costly activity, and the decision was made to move the touring onto a new home.

The Paperwork

Though the car has covered comparatively low miles for its age, it seemingly hasn’t missed out on maintenance with a well-documented history folder and a well-thumbed and for that matter stamped service booklet.

The standout points for this car’s history are the replacement turbochargers and wastegates fitted in 2012 by BMW under warranty, meaning the parts currently fitted to the car have only covered around 45,000 miles. That’s a big deal as replacing those parts is costly and time consuming.

Other service points of note are the thermostat and water pump that were replaced by an independent specialist in June of 2018. Most recently, however the car has had a replacement cam cover gasket, oil filter and fresh oil, spark plugs and two brand new rear tyres.

It is worth noting that, for a period this car wore a different private registration number, which is why some of the invoices don’t have the same registration.

The Interior

Black leather is the theme in here, the chunky multi-function M-Sport steering wheel, leather gear knob and handbrake lever are complemented by contrasting silver trim. Whilst the whole cabin is enclosed by a dark anthracite headliner.

In-car entertainment is taken care of by BMW's I-Drive system which includes satellite navigation, AM/FM and DAB radio as well as a 6 CD changer.

The leather seats are heated and electrically adjustable and everything works as it should. The heated seats will provide you with a warm bum on those frosty mornings. whilst automatic climate control will keep you cool on hotter summer days.

The car retains the original torch, 2 level boot floor which turns over to offer protection to the carpeted rear when carrying estate car things, like a dog. There is a factory luggage net, the original tool kit and first aid kit, which all remain in place.

The Exterior

There is a deep shine to the Sapphire Black paintwork, having only recently been treated to a machine polish and full detail.

As you look around this Touring, you’ll start to notice some trick features, at the front a radar sensor used as part of the Active Cruise Control System. The adaptive Xenon headlamps have an automatic high beam function so you can avoid blinding traffic coming towards you.

There are a few age-related marks, which are to be expected of what is now a 15-year-old car. The most notable of which is a small dent on the tailgate which can be seen in the images.  Despite being 15 years old the E90 generation 3-series, especially when specified as well as this car, retains a timeless appearance.

The Mechanics

Visually, the mechanical components of this 335i seem perfect. The recent work mentioned above should only help to put your mind at ease and the low mileage will support that.

The owner tells us that there are no nasty knocks bangs or clunks, the steering feels positive, and the clutch and gearbox operate exactly as they should. The optional M-Sport suspension should offer drivers the ultimate driving experience whilst not compromising too much the luxury nature of such a car.

The owner tells us the engine sounds strong, and pulls well, and even in today’s horsepower space race. A 300bhp 3-Series estate is plenty powerful. Especially when you consider the prior generations’ M3 only had around 40BHP more.

The Appeal

This is an easy section to write! This car manages to be powerful yet smooth, engaging yet easy to live with. It really does cut the fine line of a daily drive that you could really enjoy driving. All the practicality of a well optioned 3-Series estate, but the power of an M3.

The options are endless with a car like this, the N54 engine fitted is incredibly tuneable, some minor work and you can see the thick end of 400bhp, alternatively you could bolt a tow bar to it and tow your caravan, very, very quickly.

The choice is yours…

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
