∙A fantastic GT or summer car with plenty of performance
Introduced in 2005, the Aston Martin Vantage - available with either a V8 or V12 engine - was a family of premium, hand-built super GT cars from Aston, aimed at the upper end of the touring market and at those who want all-out performance with the air touch class and sophistication that only Aston Martin can provide.
With a 4.3-litre, quad-cam naturally aspirated V8 engine up front, the first generation V8 Vantage had an impressive 380bhp on tap, and could sprint from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 175mph.
The roadster variant was unveiled in 2006, debuting at the Greater Los Angeles motor show - an ideal climate for a drop-top supercar! Despite its greater kerb weight, Aston Martin claimed both cars would have identical performance, and compensated for the loss of rigidity with a new super-stiff cross-member, to keep the handling characteristics comparable with those of the coupé.
This particular V8 Vantage Roadster appears to have had a well-heeled and well-travelled life before it came into our vendor’s possession in early 2021.
Initially handed over and inspected by Keeler Motorcars of Geneva with 18 miles on the odometer, the next service stamp appears to place the car in Monaco, with a stamp from British Motors SAM of MC Monaco at 1,491 miles. This is an exceptionally well-specified example, finished in the gorgeous inky Onyx Black, with 20” wheels, bluetooth, sat-nav, 700w stereo and OE clear rear tail lights.
Since then, the car has passed through the hands of six owners before our vendor acquired the car, and proceeded to use this Vantage as a second ‘daily driver’ car, with everything from long-distance journeys to daily shopping trips completed behind the wheel of this wonderful V8 Roadster.
During their ownership, in excess of £8,000 has been spent on servicing and other maintenance, ensuring that this particular Vantage in in absolutely tip-top mechanical condition, with the vendor reporting no known problems and stating that the car drives fantastically, showing an impressive turn of speed when requested and yet being wonderfully refined the rest of the time.
A rich and detailed history accompanies this V8 vantage, with the requisite owners manual and service book both being present. There are two folders of documents and invoices, along with three keys and two remote fobs.
Whilst in the vendor's care, the car has always been maintained by Davron Aston Martin Specialists wherever possible, and a total of over £8,000 has been spent in maintenance and upgrades, including a new clutch which is an uprated OE Aston Martin example.
Inside, the luxurious leather interior of this V8 Vantage has stood the test of time well, and presents in very good order for its age and mileage.
There is some light wear noted to the seats as you’d expect from well-used leather, though no sign of any rips or tears. Both footwells and carpets are in excellent condition, as are the centre console and dashboard which show no signs of damage or excessive wear.
The door cards show some light usage marks, though, impressively, the inner door sills - complete with Aston Martin plaques - are both immaculate and show no deep marks or scuffs.
As far as we could tell, all systems are working perfectly and the soft-top mechanism is working exactly as it should, and also benefits from a new control module supplied by Aston Martin, the invoice for which is shown below.
One thing that really struck us as we photographed the car was the depth of the Onyx Black paintwork, and the sheer level of flake within the paint - it’s absolutely stunning!
As a whole, the exterior of this high-performance roadster presents fantastically, though - like any car of this age and mileage - there are a few marks and cosmetic issues.
The front showcases the usual smattering of stone chips and light marks, whilst there are also a few patches of bubbling underneath the paint on the NS door around the mirror and door handle, and on the OS door front corner, lock, handle and wing mirror mounting points, along with the OSR wing near the lid for the soft top, all of which has been shown in the gallery below.
All four wheels are immaculate and wrapped in matching high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres, whilst the light lenses are all free from damage and there are no major chips noted to the glass.
The folding soft-top roof is in excellent shape and shows only a few creases from irregular use, though there is no damage to the material, nor to the rear window.
Firing into life with impressive vigour, the hills of the Cotswolds were alive with the sound of English V8 music during our photo shoot. There were no signs of any hesitation, odd idling issues or other untoward problems that we noted, and the vendor reports that this V8 is mechanically excellent with all the usual faults such as the clutch having been taken care of whilst in his care.
Looking underneath, the chassis looks to be in excellent shape as far as we could see, and the latest MOT exam in February 2021 certainly pulled up no chassis-related issues, and whilst there are a few advisories for the brake discs and lines, Davron have inspected the car since and our vendor states they said that there did not appear to be any brake-related issues.
Drop-top motoring with a sonorous V8 soundtrack and Aston Martin luxury - what’s not to like? This 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster offers all of the above, whilst remaining usable and enjoyable on a daily basis. With room for some aesthetic improvements should the next owner wish to take the car ‘to the next level’ but mechanically excellent, this is a V8 Vantage that simply needs the next owner to enjoy it exactly as Aston intended - with the wind in your hair and that V8 engine snarling away; Excellent!
