THE BACKGROUND
The Fury certainly caused a stir when it was first released in 2009 at the New York International Motorcycle Show. Beginning with the CM series over 30 years ago, it has been described as “the wild side of Honda” whilst still retaining Honda’s reliable functionality. It was among the earliest to be manufactured at Honda’s new Kumamoto factory and was the first production chopper from any major manufacturer. It was actually designed by US engineers collaborating with the Japanese team who concentrated on the engine.
Technically the Fury doesn’t radically stand out, but Honda successfully created a motorcycle that looks like a custom made chopper. The teardrop fuel tank and long forks emphasise the chopper look and along with it’s remarkable 71.24 inch wheelbase, it is the longest of any production bike.
THE HISTORY
The current owner, who is a technician for a classic car retailer, has cherished this Fury for the last five years and indeed it has been serviced and maintained with no expense spared.
The owner has also carried out some custom modifications over the years which include two extra LED headlights with a separate switch, rear chrome HD LED indicators (3 in 1), custom front fender, custom radiator guard, custom air filter, custom shifters, chrome passenger backrest with luggage rack and a Vance & Hines exhaust.
Reluctantly, the owner is only selling due to a recent knee operation and consequently the Honda has been residing in the garage for the past year and a half.
THE PAPERWORK
The V5c is present along with previous MOT’s. The current MOT runs to September 2021 and the Fury is currently on SORN. It has the bonus of a private registration number - C8 TRX - which will be included in the sale.
THE CONDITION
Looking at the owners photographs, the overall condition appears to be good. There are a few scratches and stone chips (see photos) particularly to the underside as you would expect, but the desirable Ultra Blue Metallic paint still looks great and really suits this chopper.
The chrome appears to be good too with minimal scuffs although the engine covers have started to de-laminate (see photos). The more recent custom additions look very presentable.
THE MECHANICS
The bulletproof liquid cooled 1312cc V-twin delivers approximately 57bhp with a top speed of around 100mph. Along with digital ignition, two spark plugs per cylinder and a five-speed transmission, Honda’s legendary drivability and reliability are on tap. The anti-lock brakes should also offer confidence.
Recent maintenance has included an oil and filter change, new spark plugs and a fresh new battery with LED capacity indicator. Also, new Metzeler tyres, front and rear make this motorcycle ready to go.
A spare blank key, purchased from Honda, is included. It will need to be cut by the new owner.
THE APPEAL
Styling and torque are without a doubt the buzz words - the often inherently poor chopper characteristics have been cleverly engineered out by Honda with it’s impeccable road manners and torque is aplenty! The seat ergonomics are perfect for daylong rides and the forward-low positioned footpads are especially fatigue reducing.
The Honda Fury definitely has that super-cool edgy look synonymous with the American highway cruiser. So grab your helmet and leathers and enjoy exhilarating rides off into the sunset!
