• Very rare opportunity

THE BACKGROUND

The Plus 4 has been in production since 1950, so 2020 was the 70th anniversary for this classic roadster. Made famous following a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1962, the Plus 4 has remained a popular choice for those wanting a responsive and interactive driving experience.

This 70th anniversary edition is the last to be built on Morgan’s steel chassis, they’re now all built on a bonded aluminium platform, and therefore it’s immensely desirable.

THE HISTORY

First registered by the owner in June 2020, this car has been based in the UK and dry-stored in a heated garage from new. The owner tells us that is has never been taken out in the rain or in bad weather, being reserved for sunny weekend drives and special occasions.

THE PAPERWORK

A beautiful build book comes with the car, outlining the build process for the 70th Anniversary model and history of the Plus 8. The current V5 is present, as well as the official Morgan service record – the car has had two services so far, the latest in June 2021.

The original order sheet from the dealer, outlining the car’s specification, as well as the purchase receipt are also included. As a new vehicle, an MOT is not required until the car is three years old (June 2023).

THE INTERIOR

Sumptuous chocolate brown leather runs throughout the car’s interior. Soft to the touch materials and beautiful finishes are everywhere, it’s a very luxurious cabin. From the jewel-like clocks and gauges to the gorgeous Moto-Lita steering wheel, embroidered seats and polished stainless steel trim, there’s a real feeling of quality and bespoke design.

Behind the seats is a luggage area, trimmed with the same box weave dark grey carpet as the main cabin. The dash is finished in a Satin Raven Black Veneer, which beautifully complements the leather trim. Everything internally is in “like new” condition, and works perfectly.

THE EXTERIOR

Unique Mojave Silver paintwork adorns the 70th Anniversary Edition Plus 4, matched with 15-inch satin wire wheels with polished brass caps. The paint has a deep, glossy sheen and, unsurprisingly considering how few miles the car has done, looks like it has just rolled off the factory floor.

The stainless steel bright-work is pretty much perfect, and gleams wonderfully, really making the metallic silver paint come to life. As with all Plus 4s, the roadster has a gorgeous, manually operated traditional style Mohair soft top and matching cover. The cover is embroidered with the Morgan crest in yellow.

Underneath, the car looks practically spotless. We’ve rarely seen the underside of a car look as clean and fresh as this. Each of the wire wheels, including the spare mounted on the rear of the car, is in as-new condition, with matching Yokohama tyres.

THE MECHANICS

Every aspect of car’s mechanicals is in as-new condition. The suspension, brakes and engine are spotlessly clean and look to be in near-perfect condition. Everything operates exactly as it should, the car riding beautifully and sounding wonderful. The engine note is throaty and smooth, with a sporty edge.

We are told by the owner that the car drives incredibly well, with a great gearbox action, impressive power delivery and predictably good handling. The traditional 1,999cc engine has been mapped by Aero Racing, Morgan’s in-house motorsport specialist, to deliver 180bhp. In such a light car, this gives a thrilling 0-62mph time of less than seven seconds. This is paired to an Aero Racing sports exhaust, finished with a ceramic black tail pipe.

THE APPEAL

Morgan’s Plus 4 has long been considered the quintessential classic British roadster. The swooping 1940s style bodywork, traditional hand-built quality and emphasis on experience and performance means they have remained a sought-after car for seven decades.

This 70th Anniversary model is the peak of the steel chassis models. With a unique and beautiful specification, this really is a stunning car. And it’s a rare one too – just 20 of were made, which makes it one of the rarest cars in the world.

In the flesh, it looks incredible. With less than 700 miles on the clock, and having been dry-stored in a heated garage, it really does look like it has just rolled off the production line. Those looks are backed up by the wonderful Aero Racing tuned two-litre powerplant, which provides not only swift progress but a wonderful  soundtrack. It’s the ultimate antidote to the modern motoring obsessions of detached performance and electric drivetrains. This is the kind of car that really involves you, makes you want to take the long way home, to wring out the revs in every gear.

Simply put, if you’ve always wanted a Plus 4 we believe this is the best one you can buy. As a car to drive and enjoy it’s stunning, as a collectible investment it represents excellent value. It’s pristine, beautiful and one of the rarest cars you can buy. For anyone who loves cars, that’s pretty much the trinity of petrolhead perfection.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
