NO RESERVE - 1991 Mini Mayfair

Highlights

• Full respray
• Comprehensive history file
• Largely original

The Background

The Classic Mini was design by  Sir Alec Issigonis and at the time broke nearly all rules in what a car should be. It was small, handled well due to its unique design of the wheels being as far in the corners as possible and it was stylish. Celebs and film stars alike loved them dearly and that became a sensational cult classic.
Throw a sportier engine in and they even tackled the motorsport world famously winning the Monte Carlo rally.
There is a massive Mini following around the world even today and nearly every single one has its own character, and that’s what people love about them.

The History

The current owner purchased the car earlier this year and due to having a large dog it doesn’t work well with family trips out being a mini.
He is also looking to downsize his holdings and so unfortunately its last one in and first out the mini is up for sale.
Since his ownership basic maintenance and upkeep has been conducted with the majority of the hard work having happened with previous owners, all of which is heavily documented in the paperwork file.

The Paperwork

There is a large comprehensive stack of paperwork to support this vehicle with hundreds of receipts for new, refurbished or upgraded parts including all the items used during the respray/rebuild.

There are also some photos present in this listing showing the key areas addressed as part of the restoration.
The car has a valid MOT until 26 of May 2022, which is also present and so is the V5C.

The Interior

Once sitting inside you very quickly remember just how small these classic minis are. They are quite sparse inside but that’s standard from factory and this helps keep the weight down so it can handle like a housefly.

The interior features the original velour seats, which are clean and tidy, as are the matching door cards, although the carpets and floor mats have been renewed.

There is no radio fitted, but there is a cradle for one under the passenger side of the dash and speakers in the rear of the car, so a new owner can easily install their chosen in-car entertainment. There is a small slit in the rear of the driver’s seat which is visible in the photos, its no bigger than a 50p.

The Exterior

The car benefits from a comprehensive respray which was conducted by a previous owner. If you know classic Minis, you’ll know that once rot sets in , its difficult to stop and this Mini has certainly had its fair share of “surgery” as part of the respray.

All of which is documented in the paperwork and in the photo evidence. It is understood the whole car was stripped back, and repairs needed were made and any new panels needed were added, it was then painted in the original colour once more inside and out. The underside of the vehicle has also been tended to and re undersealed.
The respray has been carried out to a tidy useable condition but if you’re looking for a concourse show and shine winner this probably isn’t the vehicle for you. The respray was carried out recently and whilst it still looks well, There are a couple of areas where the respray could have been better, and these are all pictured.
The car wears the common plastic arch spats, and the chrome work is in generally sound condition. The front grill is looking a little tired.

The Mechanics

The car has the standard 998cc engine and sounds quite raspy through a slightly throatier exhaust that’s fitted.
The engine bay is tidy and very original with the exception of a few additions such as an aftermarket upgraded radiator. The gear changes are fine and the car gets down the road well which is thanks to a number of loving owners.
There are a number of invoices for engine parts and maintenance with the clutch having been done. The subframes have also had a rebuild as part of the underside refresh.

The Appeal

The Mini , the small car with the big personality. If you had told Sir Alec Issigonis when he designing the Mini just how popular they were to become he would have probably laughed in your face.
Such simple design and cuteness overload ensured this little car broke records on and off the track. By today's standards of course, they may not be the most powerful small car you can buy but they still feel quite raw and if you’ve ever driven one, your certain to get the bug.
If you’re looking for a tidy useable car that doesn’t need to live in an oxygen tent that you can get out and use, this particular example has had a lot of attention afforded to it by most of its previous owners and that shows in its honest condition. If you’re looking to get behind the wheel of this cult classic this could well be the one for you.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
