The Background

The fourth series of the popular 3 series from BMW the E46 was produced from 1997-2006 and available as a saloon, estate, coupe, hatchback and convertible.
The E46 3 Series was an incredibly popular model, and to this day is well regarded among enthusiasts. It was considered to be the best in class thanks to it’s fantastic blend of ride, handling and well weighted controls that none of its rivals could touch.
This Sapphire Black Convertible is the 5 Speed 2.2L Automatic variant, with a huge list of extras.

The History

First hitting the roads of the UK back in 2002 this fine example of the E46 was equipped with whole load of additional extras. These include:

- Metallic sapphire black with black nappa leather and dark wood trim
- Steptronic automatic
- Factory hardtop
- Electric folding heated door mirrors
- Factory TV sat nav entertainment system CD multi changer with sat nav disc
- Factory Xenon headlights with washers
- Heated electric memory seats
- Auto wipers and headlights
- Traction control
- Remote central locking
- 16” Alloys with Goodyear Eagle Efficientgrip tyres
- Spare grey master key
It was owned initially by a lady owner in Yorkshire before it made its way to devon in 2009.

The paperwork

The private reg number currently on the vehicle is not included on the sale, and it will be sold with the original registration of YS52XKJ

Original book pack with a service book full of stamps is included as well as the MOT certificate since its registration back in ‘02.

All services have been carried out by BMW specialists at the required times.

The Exterior

Exterior wise the vehicle is in great condition, both the factory hardtop and convertible canvas are tidy and in working order. There are a few marks and tiny, tiny imperfections around the car but truthfully you would need to spend a good amount of time trying to find most of them.
There’s no records of any body or paint repairs, the black metallic sapphire paint looks lovely, especially with the black leather interior. It’s becoming increasingly rare to find a E46 that hasn’t been ‘modified’ in one way or another, this car has stayed true to its original factory build. It does come with a factory hardtop which looks great when on - it still has the original supplying dealers sticker in the rear window.
Soft top is in great condition and the operation is as smooth as the day it left the factory.

The Interior

In fantastic order once again, the optional nappa leather seats are unscathed and the dark wood trim looks good. A few small marks on the areas where the hardtop is attached but it’s minor.

Radio/Nav operates as it should, carpets and footwells clear from any wear with the BMW first aid kit still in its place untouched as well as the removable glovebox torch!
Boot is clean and unmarked, the original tool kit and spare wheel are all intact too.

The Mechanics

Lot’s of stamps, at the right times by mainly BMW specialists or main dealers, the car has been maintained properly.

It has just had a full Synthetic oil and filter service plus new brake discs all round, handbrake shoes and ABS sensors rear shocks too.

The Appeal

This a great example of the E46, especially as it seems so many get modified with big wheels, window tints and silly speakers. This car has been kept to its original factory set up and it looks awesome.
The black on black combination on this car looks fabulous and it’s equipped with thousands of pounds worth of additional options - even though there's a few E46’s out there we imagine this combination of condition, factory options and original looks is a rare partnership.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
