NO RESERVE! 2005 Alfa Romeo 166 T/S 2.0 TI Lusso

THE HIGHLIGHTS

• Comprehensive history
• Late model 166 with TI pack
• Full leather upholstery

THE BACKGROUND

Italian saloons are one of the most stylish cars around, never a big seller in the UK which makes this late 166 TI a very respected and desirable model. A short supply of these cars and with Alfa’s being sought after by driving enthusiasts, the 166 was praised in the press due to the handling and performance, especially from the twin spark four cylinder 2 litre engine, linked to a precise and rewarding six speed manual box it is a sports car in a family car package.
This car has the addition of the “TI” pack, this added multi spoke 18 inch alloys, a 15mm ride-height drop, retuned springs and dampers, plus sports seats and the “TI” badging which is even added to the inside rim of the wheels. The Lusso Trim further adds folding exterior mirrors.

THE HISTORY

The current owner has owned the vehicle for a short time, with a classic BMW being added to his collection and lack of space the Alfa is needed to release funds and reluctantly being sold. The previous owner to the seller had the car for six years and was a die hard Alfa fan, the history for the car is comprehensive and shows the love this car has had since its registration in 2005, and although having a number of owners it has been looked after meticulously.
The car was supplied by Desire Alfa Romeo in Norfolk and the majority of its servicing has been maintained by the main dealer, after this specialist garages have looked after it.

THE PAPERWORK

The car comes with a comprehensive folder showing all receipts for servicing, parts, MOTs and a separate book pack still has the original manuals and the all important service book fully stamped up, with its most recent service as well. This was carried out by Abbey Auto services, an independent garage in Lewisham. The MOT has just been carried out as well, this expires in October 2022 and was clear of any advisories.
Inside the book pack the radio code card is present as well as a second set of keys.

THE INTERIOR

The interior of the 166 is as stylish as the exterior, full black leather upholstery is in very good condition, as you would expect there is some wear on the drivers side bolster. The plastics on the centre console are all clean and void of any scratches, the radio works perfectly with the only fault the 6 disc multi changer not currently working.
All electrics are fully working inside the car, windows, power-folding door mirrors, electric seats (driver and passenger), these are also heated as well with the drivers side having a three position memory. The remote controls do not work properly, the key still works and starts the car fine. The seller suspects it just requires recoding for these both to operate correctly.

THE EXTERIOR

This car graces any location and belies its age with the Italian modern styling, the lowered ride height also makes this car stand out. The paintwork is in good order with the usual wear and tear stone chips, a few on the bonnet and on the front bumper. There is a small series of scratches to the left hand side of the grill and also to the left side of the black mesh grill a small flat area of paintwork.
The front arch where the bodywork meets the sill on the drivers side has a rust patch, also on the opposite side there is a smaller area of corrosion.
All 18 inch alloy wheels are in good condition for the age, the photos show some light scuffs in the wheels which are wrapped in tyres with good tread, including a new tyre on the offside rear. The  full size spare tyre is in very good condition as is the steel wheel.
All sills are in good condition, as are all four door cards, just some slight wear on the drivers handle where the electric window operations are located.

THE MECHANICS

The 2.0 litre “TI” engine produces a respectable 155 bhp and with its six speed manual gearbox tick the boxes as a true drivers car. The engine sounds sporty and with its recent service and MOT the car is mechanically sound, steering is said to be perfect and with the usual Italian feel and dynamics on any stretch of road.
The water pump and timing belt have also just been done alongside the main service, receipts are present for the parts and sifting by the garage.

THE APPEAL

Saloon cars designed by Italians are always sought after, they have a style and panache about them that other marques struggle to compete with, this 166 TI is no exception.
This rare and genuine example is sure to be a future classic, and with good service history and in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition this 166 is a true gem.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
