Original Borrani Ferrari 250GTO/SWB Wheels (x5)

The Parts

They say wheels make the car, and in the case of classic Italian machines such as the Ferrari 250 GTO. Charged with the task of creating wheels for said car along with others such as the 250 SWB and a number of Maseratis was Italian company, Ruote Borrani S. p. A. It’s these wheels that we are pleased to offer for auction here.

These five original 15-inch wheels are offered by a UK Ferrari collector, who owned a 250 GTO for over 20 years as well as several 250 SWB cars. Kept as spares, the vendor has now decided that after two decades, it’s time to give other owners or enthusiasts that opportunity to acquire them. They are date stamped from the 1980s.

This auction lot comprises a pair of very wide wheels, understood to be a bespoke competition specification option for the rear of a Ferrari 250 GTO. They are stamped RW 3808/1 and are 9-inches wide. The wheels are built with alloy rims and have Borrani 42 hubs and 72 spokes.

They are marked with ‘RUOTE BORRANI - MILANO’ and ‘15 X 9 / RECORD RW 3808/1’ around the rims. One is date stamped 11/88 – the other 9/8. They are painted rather than polished, which was correct for a 250 GTO.

Also offered are 3 Borrani RW3715 wheels. 6.5-inch x 15-inch. These were also used on Ferrari 250 GTOs but also notably on the 250 GT SWB. These are likewise built with alloy rims, Borrani 42 hubs and 72 spokes.

A pair of these wheels is in impeccable condition. They are both marked with ‘RUOTE BORRANI - MILANO’ and ‘15 X 6 ½L -  RECORD RW 3715’ around the rims. Both are clearly date stamped 6/84 on the inside. They are polished aluminium and in excellent condition, although grease on the hub suggests they have definitely been fitted to a car at some stage.

Other writings on the wheels suggest that at one stage they were on a 250 GT Lusso. The other RW3715 has been painted silver – it does not have a date stamp. The  ‘BORRANI’ stamp and the ‘15 X 6 ½ -  RECORD RW 3715 on this wheel slightly overlap and are on the inside wheel rim as can be seen in the included images.

This, for Italian car enthusiasts or specialists, is a remarkable opportunity. These wheels simply do not surface on the open market, making them something to truly pounce on. This is not an opportunity that will present itself again.

Disclaimer: While these wheels are indeed in excellent visual order, we would encourage winning bidders to have them professionally inspected and checked before being once again fitted to a car. They are, after all, some thirty years old. However, bidders should also note that there is no obvious damage, buckling or issues with the spokes or spoke seats.

 About the max bid process

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

About Max Bids

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 10-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

If your bid is below the reserve price you'll bid that amount if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a bid above the reserve we will only go up to the reserve price.
Once the reserve has been met C&C will make sure you are the highest bidder using the bidding increments stated below, keeping you in the lead up until your maximum bid.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000£100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000+ £500.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
