1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Coupe - 2.5L - 300BHP SOLD

* REDUCED TO SELL*

Welcome to the very reluctant sale of my much loved 944 turbo, and your chance to own a fast appreciating, timeless classic.

I have broken down each section of the car with a description detailing condition and work carried out.

Modifications:

All of the modifications I have completed have been to promote the longevity and performance of the engine with the additional power as a welcome extra. Modifications as follows:

Lindsey Racing 3” Stainless Steel Exhaust – The 3” stainless steel exhaust withstands rust (a must with older classics) as well as allow the engine to “breath” a lot better.
Bailey Motorsport Recirculating Valve – The original recirculating valve was produced in plastic and quite frankly not up to the task. The cnc-machined aluminium Bailey Motorsport unit offers more accurate and more reliable operation with a welcome performance upgrade.
Lindsey Racing Dual Port Wastegate – The original wastegate is renowned for not allowing increased performance and age related failure. The Lindsey Racing Dual Port Wastegate is a cnc machined aluminium unit that allows for increased reliability and the ability to tune it to your engines needs.
Lindsey Racing Stage 1 Aluminium Intercooler – The original intercooler has a fairly restricted flow rate, therefore not as efficient as it could be. The Lindsey racing intercooler deals with these issues; delivering a cooler induction temperature, better flow rate and increased efficiency.
Lindsey Racing Manual Boost Controller – This allows for greater adjustability of your boost levels.
Lindsey Racing 3 Bar Fuel Pressure Regulator – When introducing greater airflow into any combustion cycle, greater fuel flow must follow to achieve the correct air/ fuel mixture.
Lindsey Racing 300bhp Chip Set – The original brain for the 944 turbo needed to be upgraded to allow for the other performance modifications to really be utilised.
Sparco Silicone Vacuum Hoses – 944 Turbo’s are renowned for the original vacuum hoses to go brittle over time and fail. Considering the 951 engine is so heavily reliant on stable vacuum pressure, the upgrade was essential.
Autometer Cockpit mounted Oil Temp, Boost and Air/ Fuel Gauges – I wanted the ability to keep an eye on what the engine was doing … plus they look cool!
Fuel Rail Pressure Gauge – Liquid filled fuel rail pressure gauge fitted to ensure fuel pressure is being maintained under load and removing the worry of a lean mixture.
Lindsey Racing Induction Kit with Pipercross Performance Air Filter – I have a Pipercross induction kit for the car which allows the engine to breath a little better and really allows the driver to hear the fantastic turbo/ induction noise. I have the original air filter box fitted with a new OEM Porsche filter installed at the moment as I wanted to go for a more stock look but the induction kit will be included with the sale if you wish to put it back on.

Recent Work includes:

New Head Gasket – Completed 17/ 01/ 15 – 109k miles - Old 944 Turbo’s can suffer from head gasket issues if not changed, fact. I wasn’t going to fall fail to this problem so decided to change the head gasket before anything went wrong. During the process, I wanted to do it properly so I had the head skimmed and valves re-seated. I took the opportunity of the engine being in bits to replace a multitude of washers, gaskets, seals etc including the inlet manifold gasket and exhaust manifold gasket and bolts. I also completed a full long mileage service (see below for full description) I have photos if you wish to see them.
New Belts – Completed 17/ 01/ 15 - During the head gasket replacement, I used the opportunity to replace the cam belt, alternator belt and power steering pump belt. The previous cam belt was changed at 86, 850 miles
Brake Pads and Wear Sensors – Completed 17/ 02/ 18 - All replaced with Pagid pads and OEM Porsche sensors.
Cleaning of Earth Points – The 944 relies very heavily on earth points around the car, Inside and out. There are 9 in total. I visited each one, cleaned it, re-attached it and finished it with clear coat to protect it.
New Gear Gaitor – The original was worn and not befitting the rest of the car so I installed a new black leather item.
Centre Console – The original console had lots of holes drilled in the side from mobile phone holders (this car was born in the 80’s) so I sourced an original replacement with no holes. A little thing I know but it drove me mad!
Leather Trim to Underside of Sunroof – The original trim was cracked in places and letting the rest of the interior down. I sourced an original, undamaged cover and replaced it.
Dash Bulbs – The lights on the dash were particularly dull so I have replaced all of the bulbs behind the dials and gauges.
New Main Boot Seal – The original rubber was looking a little tired and torn in places so a new seal was installed.
Full long mileage service – Completed 14/ 02/ 18 – Approximately 15K miles since last long mileage service - Includes oil filter (OEM Porsche), air filter (OEM Porsche), gearbox oil, engine oil, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm, coolant flush and replace, all other fluid levels checked.
Offside Lower Control Arm Ball Joint - When i took the 944 for a digital wheel alignment, the garage advised that there was a small amount of play in the lower ball joint. This car is ALL about the handling so it was replaced.

Bodywork

The bodywork is absolutely flawless with zero rust and not so much as a ripple in any of the panels. Black is an extremely unforgiving colour so if there were any imperfections; they would stick out like a sore thumb. This is genuinely one of the straightest 944’s around.

Paint

The paint on the car is 99% perfect (from a perfectionists point of view). I recently noticed a small scuff on the sunroof and there are 2 stone chips on the front bumper. Other than that, the paint is a mile deep and looks perfect. The imperfections I just mentioned are very small and cannot be seen unless you go looking for them. I am just trying to be as honest as I can. The photos speak for themselves.

Engine

Strong as an ox and pulls like a train! With the additional power mentioned earlier, this car is QUICK! I DO NOT abuse my cars; I do however go for a “spirited” drive every now and then. It always takes my breath away! I have been caught out a few times, taking it easy through 1st and 2nd, accelerating in 3rd and the rear wheels breaking traction… in 3rd! Keep it under 3000rpm and it is a beautifully comfortable, quiet, GT car. Take it over 3000rpm and it’s a smile inducing, very fast, sports car. Mileage – 124, 733 – (May go up a little)

Wheels & Tyres

Fully refurbished Porsche Veloce split rim replicas. I had these refurbished by The Polished Wheel Company here in Cornwall at a cost of nearly £600. They look amazing and really set the car off. The rear tyres are 225-40-18 Pirelli P-Zero and the fronts are 215-35-18 Fullrun. All 4 tyres have lots of tread left on them, the rears covering less than 1000 miles.

Interior

The seats are the limited edition black “Porsche” cloth, with Porsche written diagonally multiple times. All of the gauges, buttons, electrics etc work as they should. The interior is in very good condition, but is the one area of the car that could do with a little attention in certain areas (if your looking for perfection). The issues are as follows:

To be honest, it could do with new carpet in the boot. It’s not too bad, and the privacy screen that pulls over the luggage area is in great condition, but if you’re looking for perfection, it’ll be worth changing.
The right hand bolster on the drivers seat has come apart at the stitching. This presents a small hole, approximately 1-1. 5” in length. The material is not ripped so I think it is repairable.

Accessories & History

I have the original tool bag with tools, as well as the original leather pouch that the removable sunroof is stored in. I have extensive history with the car, 95% of it with Porsche (I do my own services), lots of receipts, past and present MOT’s etc. I also have the original Porsche driver’s manual, the original Porsche guarantee & maintenance manual and the Porsche service manual. I can provide photos of all of this if required

Summary

This is genuinely one of the best, well-documented 944 Turbo’s you will come across. I have owned this car for a little over 3 years now and have spent a great deal of time and money, maintaining it to the standard it is today. The only reason I am selling it is because I got married in April and unfortunately, Porsche's don’t really fit in with the next stage of my life.

The MOT is due at the end of August 2018 but i am more than happy to put a new MOT on it for the new owner.

I have no doubt left out a lot of information so please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I have a lot more photos that I am more than happy to forward on.

I highly recommend coming to view the car so just let me know when your free. I live in Cornwall, approximately 3 miles from Newquay airport, so why not make a weekend of it.

Sorry but here is the boring bit - Please no test pilots or tyre kickers. I haven't the time nor the patience. Payment will be either cash or bank transfer. The car will not be released until funds have cleared in full. Test drives are welcome but you must show me proof of fully comprehensive insurance and you will be accompanied by me at all times.

Thanks for viewing
