Chassis # 2G346
- The most desirable Lotus Elan version
- Complete and neat restoration
- Same owner since 1984
In October 1962, Lotus announced the successor of the Lotus Elite. It was a little masterpiece by Colin Chapman who applied some genius into this little convertible with staggering road handling. The recipe was simple: an engine derived from a Ford product in the big series, a homemade double-overhead camshafts aluminum cylinder head, a backbone chassis stiffening the fiberglass shell, a short-shift gearbox, four disc brakes and a hood. All at once, after producing the confidential and expensive Elite, Lotus became a full-blown manufacturer.
The car on offer belong to the same owner since 1984, who bought it from the preparer of Mandelieu, Lucien Ferrero
The engine had received a light preparation but the whole car was transported to Cagnes-Sur-Mer to a former retired engineer, specialist in Formula 2 Lotus, in order to restore it starting from the chassis, all of that by following proper set of rules and by keeping the originality of the car. The original hood is still in excellent condition with its complete rollover system and a hard top which comes with this desirable Lotus. It is rare to find a Series 1 Elan in this condition considering that most of them have been converted for competition purposes, mainly due to its astonishing performances.
Auction Estimate: € 45 000/ 65 000
