1937 Delage D6-70, Autobineau body
D6-70 with a beautiful body and original engine!
Largely unrestored, with one owner for 45 years!

Delage has always been synonymous with elegance, sport and exclusiveness. Even the six-cylinder model D6, which was released in its first iteration in 1930, was quite simply unparalleled. Luxury became increasingly exclusive during the Great Depression, and so Delage experienced difficulties, until it was finally taken over by its major rival Delahaye in 1935. Presented for the model year 1937, the D6-70 was yet another iteration, although it was essentially an independent vehicle, featuring a 2. 7-litre six cylinder engine with approximately 80 hp of power. As was the custom in the day, the company only delivered bodywork that a whole array of specialist carrossiers then transformed into rolling works of art. Even today, the French are masters of this craft, unrivalled by any other nation.

This Delage D6-70 was dressed up in a sporty, elegant saloon car attire by Autobineau, a subsidiary of Letourneur et Marchand. The lack of B-column and the doors opening in opposing directions are particular features of this bodywork. Moreover, this D6 has a standard 4-speed gearbox instead of the more commonplace Cotal preselect gearbox. The Delage were still fitted with its old French license plate from the Département Allier when it relocated to Milan in 1970. It remained there with its owner for 45 years, before he moved to Austria. Apart from an older coat of paint, it remains largely unrestored today, powered by its original engine as a fascinating testimony to the most opulent era of automotive engineering!

VIN: 50825, mileage: 4, 694 km (read), displacement: 2, 729 cc/ R6, power: 78 hp, colour: turquoise/ light brown (fabric), gearbox: 4-speed, papers: Italian vehicle papers
