Buy this car and you’ll be joining a rare club indeed. This South African assembled (CKD) car is exceptionally solid, has all its original body panels, sills and floorpan and is in outstanding overall condition. UK registered, Tax and MOT exempt but currently has MOT certificate.
• Original owners handbook and colour chart.
• The original engine has been totally rebuilt and converted to run on unleaded fuel.
• New window rubbers, mountings, tyres, shocks, brakes etc.
• The front and rear suspension was stripped, cleaned and reassembled with new bushes, mountings and shock absorbers.

This car is genuinely worth viewing and presents very well. However she does require some attention and consequently has been priced accordingly.
Mechanical work to do/ items that require attention:
• Speedo not working (cable replaced and instrument cluster working which leaves only the gearbox drive).
• Clutch is slipping and needs replacing
• Rear exhaust box is holed and needs replacing
• Right front CV gaiter split.
• Horn works intermittently.
• Slight bit of rust on the roof but minimal (been patched so looks presentable).
• Will require some paint work here and there (to bring up to a high standard) but we’re talking approx. £400/£500 to sort.
• Engine requires full detailing but with very little effort this car could be brought back to concours condition.
This car was manufactured in the first twelve months of Cooper production which debuted in September 1961. The 997 motor was only used for 3 years before being replaced with the shorter stroke 998cc unit.

1961 models: 2 licenced / 2 SORN
1962 models: 10 licenced / 17 SORN
1963 models: 9 licenced / 4 SORN
That equates to no more than 21 licenced 997s on the road in the UK today (unless they’ve had the original engine replaced which let’s be honest is very common).
997cc Cooper engine prefix had two runs: 9F/SA/H 101 to 19200 and 20411 to 26376. Our engine number is: 9FSAH8696 which ties up with the 1962 chassis number as per the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
