Definitely a future classic, the VX200 was a collaboration between Lotus and General Motors. Built alongside the Elise at the Lotus factory at Hethel in Norfolk, the VX220 shared the Lotus stiff, aluminium chassis and most suspension and steering components.
Hence the VX220 is a Lotus with a Vauxhall badge. So if you don’t care about that – and, let’s face it, any sensible person shouldn’t – then the VX220 Turbo is rarer, easier to drive, more powerful (0-60 in 4.7 seconds), has ABS and airbags, and hence represents terrific value and a cast-iron investment.
However, many VXTs have either been used as track-day toys, been crashed on the road, or have been neglected, left outside in the winter, and hence have bodywork problems or chassis damage.
Not this one: This is just about as good as any we have seen. New on 1st March 2004, two owners, 24,400 miles. Completely original and unmodified, it has always been kept inside and hence bodywork and paint are in fantastic condition. The MOT history shows low, regular use and the service history is perfect. We have maintained this car since 2008 and have just carried out a full cam-belt service (including water pump), replaced the brake fluid, fitted a new radiator and replaced the coolant. The result is a car that is both cosmetically and mechanically superb.
Great opportunity to buy a really nice, low-mileage VXT.
