|Power. A five-letter word that squarely sums up the 930 Turbo. At the correct rpm, and with the aid of its single turbo, this Porsche is spitting out approximately 256 horsepower. In a rear-wheel drive, rear engine car weighing in at just around 1,300 kilograms, that is quite a punch.|
Launched by Porsche in late 1975 as the culmination of a decade-old experiment with turbocharging, the 930 Turbo became an overnight hit and an aspirational car for an entire generation. The early non-intercooled 3.0L cars eventually grew to a 3.3-litres, putting out nearly 300hp, and were mated to a G50 5-speed gearbox in the model's final year. To this day, the wide stance and 'whale tail' of the 930 remain all-time classics of automotive design.
Ordered in January 1976 and completed in March of that same year, this early 930 was originally retailed by Allan Porsche Audi of Burbank (California). Two short months after completion at the factory, on May 18th 1976, the car was sold to Mr. John G. Mory, an avionics engineer from Long Beach, who intended it to be his 35th birthday present. The 387th of only 519 similar examples completed, it was equipped with a full Cinnamon leather interior and Copper Metallic Brown paintwork. The dealer equipped the car with an after-market air conditioning unit, ensuring the hot California summers were more manageable at the wheel.
From 1976 to 2014, the car was owned by Mr. Mory and driven in the United States and Europe; thanks to his connections in the aviation business, he was able to take the car to the Old Continent on vacation. Over the years, the car was faithfully serviced by Stan Szarkovicz, and later Robert Tasedan, at Auto Strasse —a small Porsche specialist in Costa Mesa. In 2004, a 10-year rolling restoration was initiated in the car, completed in 2014.
In its current condition, this 930 Turbo drives and looks exactly how it should. A mechanically sound and highly presentable 930, it is ready to be driven and enjoyed without the guilt of our usual ultra-low mileage examples!

A ' modern classic' if ever there was one, Porsche's long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356. The latter's rear-engined layout was retained, but the 911 switched to unitary construction for the bodyshell and dropped the 356's VW-based suspension in favour of a more modern McPherson Strut and trailing arm ar
