Allow us to introduce the 492bhp B5 super saloon from Alpina in Buchloe.
Confidently outshining the E60 M5, this Alpina boasts 516lb/ft of torque. That’s an extraordinary 133lb/ft more than the M5 can muster and its developed at a user friendly 4250rpm rather than the giddy 6100rpm of the M5’s short stroke V10… EVO Magazine came to the verdict these figures were enough to claim the B5 redefined super saloon expectations on its road test.
When you first drive a B5 you soon realise it represents a very different interpretation of how a super saloon should behave and expose its power and ability. In fact, this easy-going nature is woven into the whole Alpina ethos by founder Burkard Bovenspien who reckons the key to enjoyment in a car is less about absolute power and more to do with the manner in which that performance potential unfolds.
In the case of the B5, most will be almost shocked at the gentlemanly manner and sophisticated way you can be propelled from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 195mph… yes, you did read that correctly, 195mph!!!
Alpina had tried for many years to crack to 300kmph threshold and came close with the legendary E34 B10 Bi-Turbo. In order to finally crack it, the answer came with the E60 generation B5 and the recipe came from the idea of combining a radical compressor with BMW’s valvetronic variable valve control. And yes, you guessed it, this is the exact model Silverwood are offering you today.

For those of you new to Alpina….
Anybody superficially seeing Alpina as a faster BMW with a bit more bling will surely never be able to appreciate the creative achievements, the entrepreneurial courage and the aesthetic ambition that is associated with Burkard Bovensiepen’s life's work.........Delius Verlag (Author of OAL-BB 50 The Alpina Book)
Alpina Stripes (Deko Set)… they would never consider a BMW Alpina without the distinctive stripes – that is what Burkard Bovensiepen reportedly said to a customer to his face in the 80’s… the choice, of course, is yours… p.s. we love them!
I’m only interested in the pinnacle – a thoroghbread.
If one is to take the claim of producing the world's fastest saloon cars on a regular basis, one better excel one's self and so the B10 Bi-Turbo saloon obviously reached for the 300kmph mark, but ever so barely missed it. In order to finally crack it, Alpina developed the idea of combining a radical compressor with BMW’s valvetronic variable valve control.
