The Morris Oxford Series 3 was produced from 1956 until 1959 when the “Farina” versions arrived. Although nearly 60,000 were built, only a handful remain here but in 1958 the rights were sold to Hindustan of India where the design stayed in production as the “Ambassador” for the next 56 years.

This car is a 1959 Morris Oxford series 3 in “Mandalay grey” over “Island Green” with floor change gearbox – a cost option when the car was new. The previous owner bought it in the 1990’s as a project. In 2003 he started a comprehensive restoration including new inner and outer sills and replacement wheel-arches, a high quality re-paint and complete re-chrome. Over the next few years he treated it to a further round of spending - the standard engine was replaced with a fully re-built 1622cc “B” series engine with twin SU carbs, a brake servo was fitted and the interior was fully re-trimmed. More recently and in the last 1000 miles it has also benefitted from a new clutch, complete brake overhaul and new rear suspension bushes.

The standard of the work carried out is evident, this car remains in beautiful condition and drives perfectly. It is also robust and well sorted, its previous owner used the car for European tours including a trip over the Pyrenees mountains and it was only sold due to health issues. Everything works, even the clock but the trafficators have been disconnected and replaced with flashing bulbs front and rear.

We are big fans of 50’s BMC cars and this beautiful upgraded saloon is unique. We estimate that it would cost £15k-£20k to replicate so it offers great value at around half the price of a ZA/ZB Magnette in similar condition. It comes with an interesting history file including original buff logbook, service book, warranty documents and various bills and old Mot’s. The registration number is original to the car and transferable.
