1929 Austin 12/4 Heavy Fabric Bodied Saloon Black SOLD

First registered 20th July 1929 in Surrey. The original Log Books, which come with the car, show the first three owners, 1929 to March 1962. Names of owners from 1985 to date are known. The car had a complete rebuild and rewire from 1990-92.

It is in exceptional condition and starts very easily. The fabric body is undamaged and unmarked; the metal body parts and chassis are rust free, with very good paintwork. All the tyres have plenty of tread. The engine has recently had new pistons and rings fitted to the re-honed bores. Whilst stripped the opportunity was taken to check the rest of the engine interior and it was found that all parts were in good condition. The interior is extremely good with the leather work, carpets and roof lining all in lovely condition. The original, working, flower petal reading lights are still fitted in the rear passenger compartment. There is a smoker’s hatch in the roof. The instruments are functioning, including the clock except, of course, the dear old Hobson fuel gauge, which has a mind of its own. A graded dipstick is provided! In the tool compartment under the scuttle there is a good proportion of the original tools and the screw jack and wheel brace are fitted under the bonnet. Discrete indicators have been fitted and the lights are LED in the original lamp fittings. As the car is negative earth, a modern power point for mobile phones and sat nav has been fitted, out of sight, under the passenger’s side of the dash.
On the driver’s running board is fitted a BP petrol can and the car comes with a good size, period, rear mounted box with a fitted Austin badge, reflectors and an old style GB plate.
