1955 Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster For Sale in London ( LHD SOLD
Former Concours 1st place winner
Age eligible for 2019 Mille Miglia
Orignal factory build MC roadster
Panache and ultra-stylish
One of the 1950s’ most iconic motor cars, the Jaguar XK series has always had a strong following. The technologically innovative and stunning XK120 proved to be extremely popular thanks to its remarkable new twin-cam inline-6 cylinder engine, swoopy styling and genuine 120 mph performance (not to mention the surprisingly affordable price). For 1955, the XK120 became the XK140, which, while substantially the same, was improved in key areas. XK140s offer more leg room and more power, rack and pinion steering, telescoping shock absorbers, and improved brakes. As ever, coupe, drophead coupe, and roadster versions were available with the roadster always remaining the most beautiful and pure model. The most desirable and highest performing variant was the SE model, which could be further enhanced with the competition derived “C-Type” cylinder head. The SE designation stood for Special Equipment, which included rear half bumpers, larger wire wheels, dual exhaust, fog lamps, larger carburetors, and usually C-Type cylinder head, which resulted in 20 more horsepower. These cars were also designated MC when fitted with the C-Type head.
Beautifully finished in Masons Black with Biscuit hide, sitting on bright chrome spoke wire wheels and fabulous period Forestone white wall tyres. Subjected to a nut and bolt restoration which was completed in 1998 whereupon competition the car won 1st place at the annual Jaguar Club North America. Passing on to its last owner in 2005 where it formed part of a large private collection and rarely used.
Mechanically the car is in very good order. It starts easily, sounds strong and demonstrates excellent power. The transmission and clutch both operate as they should. The brakes appear to have been recently serviced and are very effective.
The interior is trimmed is very high-quality Biscuit hide with matching wool carpets. The dash is also trimmed in leather, while the door panels are done in vinyl. The original Smiths gauges have been restored and are in excellent condition.
The coachwork relatively straight and solid with reasonably good bonnet fit, while the door and trunk alignment shows moderate fit irregularities in some places. The paint is very high caliber finish and shows extremely well with virtually no chips or scratches. The chrome work-inside and out-is extremely good with just very minimal hazing from polishing and no weathering or pitting. The wire wheels are in outstanding condition.
Complete with factory tools, owners manuals and wealth of invoices this is an extremely special opportunity to acquire one of the original MC cars now age eligible for the 2019 Mille Miglia.
