1985 Mazda RX7 Evolution Group B Works Rally Car For Sale
We offer for sale MRTE 019, 1985 Mazda RX7 Evolution Group B Rally Car
One of only seven cars assembled and fully race prepared by Mazda Rally Team Europe in 1985, to FISA Group B homologation specification B-255 to compete in the Group B World Rally Championship.
Due to the demise of Group B, MRTE 019 never competed and remains to this day in 'as new condition' and to full Group B specification.
MRTE 019 is a remarkable survivor, having never been altered or adapted to compete in motorsport categories after the cancellation of Group B and as such is of historic importance. Sitting behind the original specification Italvolanti steering wheel and looking beyond the Mazda race clocks and quick release aluminium and suede dashboard, one is transported directly back to 1985 and the power and frenzy of the Group B championships. We have obtained original photography from the period which confirms the originality of MRTE 019's engineering, detailing and heritage, detailing and originality, which in many cases has been lost on the very few surviving cars which have been altered over the past 33 years, some, significantly and beyond their original specification.
There are a lot of myths surrounding the Mazda RX7 Group B Evolution cars. It is said that Mazda themselves did not sanction, or become involved in the program. Whilst it is true that Mazda didn't provide direct factory support in the form of engineers, or significant funding, they did supply body shells, engines, gearboxs and technical support, as well as supporting the homologation submission B-255 through the Japanese Automobile Federation. They were also sufficiently proud of the achievement of Achim Warmbold's team and their 3rd place result on the 1985 Acropolis Rally, behind the Peugeot T16 and Audi Quattro Sport, to proudly display the car as a central feature on their 1985 Tokyo Motorshow stand.
MRTE 019 has been maintained regardless of cost and is in perfect running order and complete, right down to the pace note reading lights and would form a wonderful addition to any collection. The car is eligible to compete in any of the historic championships relevant to the cars specification and subject to FIA appraisal and offers its future owner the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of specialist historic events or concours around the world.
The car is currently on display and can be viewed at Mazda UK 's Heritage Centre. The car will be sold with documentation and homologation papers. All taxes are paid.
