1985 'B' Ford Escort 1.6i Cabriolet (convertible version of the XR3i hot hatch)
Sunburst Red/Grey velour with blue stripe.
Has the bonus of now having the 1983 registration number A641OWC from the press car featured in the May 1984 What Car (as pictured, which was from the same time as the Dempsey and Makepeace grey Escort Cab,A643OWC and Princess Diana's dark red Escort 1.6i,A462RHK as seen in the last photo).
She has loads of history and on 7th August 2018 had a service and has a MOT to 24/5/19.
Importantly for these there is no debris in the bottom of the sump.
She has all her handbooks, service book,2 sets keys inc the torch key and even the original brochure.
The car drives fantastically and keeps up with modern traffic whilst emitting a gorgeous rasp from the totally standard exhaust.
The car is totally unmodified mechanically which is really hard to find now.
The original extra's fitted are a rear spoiler and an electric aerial and the hood was replaced a few years back and the tonneau cover is still present.
A non original radio/CD has been fitted and the electric aerial is angled so it misses an open boot lid.
The original stereo's are available from a couple of quid on Ebay if you want to put one in for a show but everyday you're better off with the newer one.
The interior is in great condition and the hood is water tight.
The top of the dashboard does have the inevitable cracks all 80's Ford's have.
Repair kits start at £22 and professional repairs are £150 plus.
The car is insured on Classic Car insurance and has an agreed value after inspection/photo's etc of £7500.
She has covered just over 100,000 miles,an average of 3,000 miles a year over it's 34 year life and this mileage is genuine.
She's not a garage queen and enjoys being used, esp with the roof off.
She has rear seatbelts fitted and is quite roomy with back seats and a decent boot(even with the hood down) whilst outperforming most 2 seater traditional of the 70's/80' like MGB's.
The digital clock isn't working and the dipstick doesn't have the electric tip to give an oil warning.Just not been able to find them yet but they combined they will only cost about £35 to £70.
Bodywise it's ok but needs looking after to stop the red from fading. There are normal use stonechips, little parking dents if you go in very close for a look but on photo's and 10 yards away she looks mint.
The best thing about this car is originality and useage so you really feel the retro 1980's feel and a full restoration hasn't ruined it's character.
Where else can you get one with this history and genuine mileage (please BEWARE of other advertised with very low mileage that have had repaints, non original seats and parts and have done 100k miles more than the speedo shows ).
This is a very genuine 5 owner car owned by an enthusiast (I've had her 7 years) who has had and has other classic Fords and classic cars).
