1987 Mercedes 500SL R107, one owner, low miles. For Sale
Many people are now getting wise to the virtues of a Mercedes SL – in particular, the R107 versions that graced our living-room screens during the 1980’s as Bobby Ewing and Sue-Ellen’s cars in Dallas, not to mention Hart-to-Hart, Dempsey and Makepeace and many more iconic TV shows.
They became known to many as the ‘Mistress’ Car’, as they were often given as gifts to the ‘other woman’. But nowadays, they’re a sought-after classic that can be used every day – one which offers strong investment potential due to its reliability, bullet-proof build-quality and its 2-plus-2 configuration and removable hard-top giving it an unparalleled versatility compared to other classic offerings.
This stunning Mercedes 500SL R107 presented in Glacier White, was delivered by Derwent Vehicles of Leeds and was first registered on New Year’s Day 1987.
The car was originally registered as company car to Martin Hemsworth, the managing director of Hemsworth Photo Finishers Ltd,
In 1991, Mr Hemsworth then changed ownership of the car from Hemsworth Photo Finishers Ltd to his own personal name, effectively making this a one owner Mercedes despite showing two owners on the V5.
An exceptionally rare find. It is also the most sought-after of the R107 models (a post-1986 (facelift) R107), so the car benefits from galvanised body panels, improved suspension and brakes, plus a switchable sports/economy gearbox.
This car’s unrestored and original condition belies its warranted 89k miles and 30 years of age. The bodywork shows no signs of corrosion, the engine bay presents as it should, the underside is well-preserved, as is the navy blue interior.
Demonstrating its originality through its modest patina, it’s clearly obvious how well this car has been cared for by its one and only owner.
Factory options include, 15? OE Alloy Wheels, ABS, Central Locking, Chrome Door Handles, Cruise Control, Electric Mirrors, Rear Spoiler, Removable Hard-Top and Diffuser Blade.
The service history is extensive and the car has been serviced a total of 15 times during its 89k miles, relating to an average service interval of every 6,000 miles, and ALL with the same Mercedes main dealer in Leeds.
A recent service by a marque specialist was completed only a few hundred miles ago ensuring full peace-of-mind and the new owner’s enjoyment of this iconic car.
Added to which the car has recently been treated to a new OEM exhaust system, a new navy blue Mohair roof, and is supplied with a full MOT showing no advisories.
