1972 Porsche 911 2.4E Targa For Sale

Porsche 911 2.4E Targa 1972 was a great time for Porsche, with the 911 now almost a decade old, they had developed it into a range of understated but beautifully engineered road cars that were the direct result of their involvement in motorsport. The 911 of that era came in three different variants. The T with 130bhp, the E with 165bhp and the S with 190bhp.The E and S models utilised mechanical fuel injection and all models benefited from the new, stronger 915 gearbox with a conventional 5 speed pattern over the out going ‘dog-leg’ 901 type gearbox. The Targa version (named after their success in the Targa Florio) was introduced in 1966 to meet customer demands for a convertible as was previously available in the 356. The 911 Targa allowed the driving experience of a 911 with the benefit of a removable panel for open air motoring and had a solid roll bar which was now fitted with a fixed rear window. Unlike a traditional convertible, this offered genuine roll over protection and virtually no wind buffeting with the roof removed. This 911 2.4 Targa was originally supplied in LHD E specification to New York in June 1972, and finished in 936 Silver metallic. The car was imported into the UK in 2013 and in 2014 received comprehensive bodywork and a full bare metal respray to its correct 936 Silver metallic. In 2015 it under went further restoration work in the form of a full engine and gearbox rebuild, including complete exhaust system. The entire fuel and oil system was also replaced to new. Brakes and suspension were fully overhauled at this time too. The interior is finished with the correct velour ‘salt and pepper’ carpet and new door pockets. All of the instruments have been completely restored by North Hollywood speedometer. The radio has been fully restored and now accepts MP3. A rare open top 911 that is thoroughly sorted for immediate enjoyment, please contact us today to arrange a viewing.
