A highly original collector’s grade example in a special order colour; low mileage and unrepeatable!
History of this car
According to the Fiat Centro Storico archive, our car chassis 0002581 was manufactured at the Fiat Mirafiori plant in April 1968. The Dino was registered new in that month in Torino, allocated registration TO 999674 (the same registration remaining with the car until importation into the UK in 2014 by the current owner).
The first owner would keep the Dino until 1995, when it changed hands for the first time. The current owner bought the Fiat from that gentleman, so this is a documented three owner from new vehicle.
This is an incredible unrestored example, finished in the only optional Dino coupe colour, Mexico City blue. We are told this Dino was kept unused from 1974 to 2005 hence the recorded mileage of 25,000 being the believed total mileage from new. This reading is credible given the amazing interior and exterior trim and glass, without either the decay or restoration commonly found on this model.
Since importation into the UK, our car has enjoyed much maintenance and has been reliably and enjoyable used.
We are facilitating a private sale of this car, the only reason for sale is the acquisition of a Dino spider.
Our car wears an older repaint in the original special order delivery colour. The paint presents beautifully with a thin, even shine and no orange peel. All panel gaps are perfect and the doors benefit from new hinge pins (a model weakness). What sets this car apart from the rest is the amazing glass and stainless trim which is without any wear, we’ve not seen a better preserved example of the model.
The chassis on this car is of reference quality, without any rust or accident repair, and the whole car makes for a knock out first impression.
The all alloy 2 litre engined Dino is in our opinion a nicer car to drive than the heavier 2400 which followed. The 2 litre motor revs and sounds better and this example is an excellent driver, on the button and ready to go.
In current ownership, much work has been completed:
All new Vredestein tyres on refinished Cromodora wheels
Ignition overhaul with new points, plugs and fresh HT leads
Cooling overhaul with all new hoses and refreshed radiator
Fuel overhaul including new lines and rebuilt carburettors
Full SS exhaust system fitted
New Facet fuel pump with relay upgrade
New HD battery
Freshly rebuilt alternator
Engine oil/filter replaced every 500 miles
The engine bay presents in show condition with all original finishes, and boasts the original working Dinoplex.
MOT expiring Novermber 2018.
Our car has been fitted with a very rare Momo Prototipo steering wheel of the type fitted to the Dino 206SP racing cars. That aside, the interior is all original down to the carpets and unworn upholstery and dash top. Even the running in sticker is still affixed to the windscreen. These Dino interiors are fragile and this car is possibly unique with this level of preservation.
As per the interior, very original with correct coarse weave carpet, battery cover and strap, full tool and jacking kits in their numbered bags, alloy spare wheel and tie down in place.
This is the best 2 litre Dino coupe available, and likely the best unrestored one left. It is a preservation class contender at the better shows, you won’t find a nicer one.
Supplied with a history file and original owner’s manual in branded supplying dealer wallet.
