A nostalgic Rover 214SLi with a low 37,527 miles from new.
Duotone paintwork, bodyside mouldings with red insert, grey rear applique, green tinted glass, windscreen shadeband, flush glazed laminated windscreen, sliding/tilting sunroof, remote tailgate release, remote fuel filler release, burr walnut fascia and door inserts, fascia shelf with rubber mat, bright front door sill tread strips, fascia mounted digital clock, central door locking, electric front windows, ‘one-shot down’ driver’s window, electric door mirrors, Electronic Tune R652 stereo cassette, perimetric anti-theft alarm, passive arming immobiliser. Factory options; Progressive rate power assisted steering.
This delightful Rover 214SLi is finished in Duotone White Diamond over Tempest Grey, (Code RYG). The paint has a bright uniform finish and a pleasing polished shine. All factory panels are remarkably well preserved with only a few light dings, entirely commensurate with garage storage and just 37,527 miles covered. Minor paintwork blemishes can be seen upon inspection and there is a light impression to the rear bumper. Having been stored under cover the trims section are well preserved and show no UV damage or fading. Originality seekers with be impressed with the supplying dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and gold chassis tag in the windscreen. This well-appointed SLi model was a desirable choice within the Rover 200 Series range and once a common sight on our roads, and this rare survivor displays its low mileage credentials with pride.
A typically plush interior as to be expected from Rover, the Renaissance upholstery in Granite colour scheme, (Code LOY), is beautifully clean as you would expect from a car of such low mileage. The seats are in superb order with firm bolsters retaining all shape and only slight loosing of the material to the driver’s seat lower bolster. The carpets, door cards and trim are in excellent order. The fascia is immaculate and all functions and controls operate perfectly including the original Rover R652 stereo cassette. The Rover Group build plate remains affixed to the lower inner nearside B-pillar. A spacious, airy and very comfortable modern classic, and awfully patriotic!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the K-Series 16v double overhead camshaft engine with electronic multi-point fuel injection, this 1396cc unit develops 102bhp at 6000rpm and 127Nm torque at 5000rpm. This is enough to achieve a top speed of 112mph and 0-60 is dealt with in respectable 10.5 seconds. With responsive acceleration and a civilised driving manner, the driving characteristics were very well regarded and helped this 200 Series to become a huge success for Rover throughout the late 1980’s and 90’s. The engine bay is very clean and displays factory stickers and bulkhead chassis stamp. Gear changes via the 5-speed manual box are light and precise, affirming once more the cars low mileage credentials.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard 14” wheels remain dressed with the original SLi wheel trims which are fully intact and show only faint markings. The 175/65 R14 tyres have good tread remaining and the spare wheel has the original Pirelli P2000 tyre which is housed alongside the polystyrene moulding which has the factory supplied jack and brace. Diagonally split and dual-circuit servo assisted brakes offer assured straight line stopping power.
Supplied new on the 29th September 1993 by Rover Main Agents, G Kinsbury of Middlesex, this example was purchased as a dealership demonstrator at just one year old by retired Navy Officer, Mr Anthony Waller, who is listed in the service book as the first keeper. Mr Waller kept the car for 19 years and his Navy Coat of Arms badge remains in the windscreen. In 2013 the car was passed to his Son, Bernard Waller, who is the last recorded keeper. The original Rover document wallet houses all handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as the service book containing six stamped entries, all from the supplying Rover main dealer, G Kinsbury.
Three sets of Rover keys with G Kinsbury keyring and an original sales brochure complete the history file along with some previous MOT certificates and invoices. This lovely car is perfect for any Rover enthusiast wanting a well preserved and useable example ready for classic car shows and functions.
