Description:

Launched in 1951 at Earl's Court as the "New Austin Seven", the A30 was Austin's small family saloon designed to compete against Morris' new Minor... It cost £507 when new, undercutting the Minor by £62! Designed by T. K. Garrett; an Aeronautical engineer before joining Austin, the A30 used a new monocoque construction making it lighter and stiffer than its counterparts. It was offered as a 4-door saloon to begin with, until the 2-door came out in 1953, joined by the van and 'Countryman' estate in 1954, and was powered by the famous 'A-Series' engine. In 1957, the A35 was introduced with a few minor changes including a larger 948cc engine, better gear ratios, flashing indicators and a larger back window, remaining in production until 1968.

This ‘baby Austin’ is a real time machine. Having had the same Aberporth owner from new plus a second for a short period (after realising it was too small for his family!), she has only clocked up 15, 800 miles remaining in largely original condition – remarkable considering she is 61 years old! Some work has been carried out underneath to a high standard, which as shown in the pictures is extremely clean and properly undersealed meaning corrosion isn’t an issue on this car. We have also fitted a new, correct carpet set to replace the missing original.

The A-Series engine starts eagerly with some choke from cold, and will settle down nicely when some temperature is attained. It accelerates and maintains speed easily with no smoke or untoward noises, with the four-speed gearbox working as expected. She will pull up to a stop nice and straight with the hydraulic front brakes and rod actuated rear brakes. The car is tax and MoT exempt now, however we have put it through a MoT at a ‘Classic Friendly’ approved garage giving you and your insurer a peace of mind that it the car is fully roadworthy.

The paintwork does have a few marks and scratches in it here and there, but she still polishes up nicely. The chrome work is pitted, and peeling in places on the rear bumper – These items could be refurbished/ replaced if you wished, however it would detract from the car’s originality. The interior is complete; with red carpet and red/ maroon seating. The drivers seat has the odd small tear, and the headlining is discoloured and a little torn around the edges but is in keeping with her character! There is an heater in the cabin to help keep things warm in the colder months, plus the original wheel changing kit in the luggage compartment.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a large history file with the car, apart from a few old MoTs and tax discs, but the current V5C and MoT are present and correct. All in all, this is a fantastic, well-loved little motor car that is absolutely ready to be preserved and enjoyed, for day trips into the country on a weekend, classic car shows in the summer, or just to nip down to the shops to make a change!

Here for sale is my beautiful 1976 mini van. It has just been through a very comprehensive 12 Month restoration, leaving no nut, bolt or screw unturned. This has been done at great expense for the enjoyment of reviving a vehicle otherwise destined for the scrapheap. I found the van in an industrial unit near me, it ...
