1957 TOTALLY ORIGINAL UNRESTORED WITH ONLY 45000 MILES For Sale
According to the Heritage Trust certificate, chassis no- 111800296 was completed on 03/10/57 and dispatched to James Gibbon Motors of Glasgow on 17/10/57. It remained in Scotland until very recently when I acquired it for my small collection of unrestored Series 1's. Unbelievably this 88'' has never been painted, welded or messed around with whatsoever, mainly due to it being extremely well looked after throughout it's life and being properly dry stored from new. All of the paint is factory original and still has the lovely deep green cellulose finish that can never be replicated through restoration. It still has it's original grey Elephant hide seats in superb condition which is a very rare find nowadays. The chassis still retains a large amount of the black factory finish, however I've given it a thin coat of wax to preserve it. Every detail is factory correct with perishable items like the wiring loom remaining in superb condition. Judging by the minimal wear on the gear selector, seats, pedals and pedal shaft, the mileage of only 45452 could well be original. Unrestored Land Rover's with a lovely patina are at last gaining a strong following as collectors realise the over restored look of so many Series 1's doesn't quite suit a classic working Land Rover. Having owned Series 1 Land Rover's for over 25 years and spoken to many enthusiasts, the common view is that the last of line 88'' model is the nicest to drive due to various improvements over the range such as a recirculating ball steering box. Restored Series 1's are a very common sight nowadays, however original unrestored examples like this appear very rarely.
