1958 Maserati 3500 gt spider touring Prototype N. 01/03 For Sale
THE MOST IMPORTANT MASERATI LOST SINCE 1968 HAS BEEN FINALLY FOUND.
Already at the presentation of the Maserati 3500 GT coupe in 1957, the Maserati committee decided to release a Spider version, and asked Carrozzeria Touring, former manufacturer of the coupe, together with Carrozzeria Frua and Carrozzeria Vignale to make their proposal.
This order was then given to the Carrozzeria Vignale of Turin, which produced 243 spiders on behalf of Maserati.
The Carrozzeria Touring produced 3 prototypes of Spider, derived from the coupe, which were in any case sold on the international market. 101,010 was sold in Italy, 101,124 in the United States and 101,126 in France.
The 101.010 prototype was sold and registered by Maserati as first owner - at that time it used to be common to register any car first with the coach builder company – then sold to a company in 1958 for the figure of 4,950,000 lire.
After one year, in 1959, this company sold the car to a business man in Milan for the sum of 2,000,000 lire, which was used until the end of 1962.
The Milan businessman then sold in 1962 to a dealer for the sum of 2,300,000 lire that held it until 1964.
The dealer then sold the car to a car hire company in Asti for the sum of 1,850,0000 lire that used it only for a short period to sell it to a gentleman in Turin for the sum of 1,000,000 lire, of which one part by means of bills, with annotation on the chronological extract/bill of sale.
The 101.010 was seized, already in very bad condition having suffered an accident, from time to time due to the financial difficulties of the owner having not paid the last bills and was then sold at auction in 1967 to a wrecker for the sum of 87,000 lire.
101.010 remains included in the Automobile Registry of the Italian Automobil Club until 1989 when it was disbanded for administrative reasons as the stamps were not paid from 1967 to 1989.
Precisely for this fortunate circumstance today by law having been cancelled from Motor Registry for administrative reasons we are able to re-register the car with its original plates and original document “libretto grigio” giving even a more historical value.
Today we are in possession of the original frame and the documentation of the car from march 1958 and we have already recovered all the parts that we need for the restoration of the car that will be faithfully restored as the prototype produced in 1958 by our professional team.
Our primary goal is to give back life and put it back on the road in concourse conditions - as we have already done for many other cars and in particular several Maserati 3500 gt touring in the last 35 years of working experience in the field of restoration of our team or give it to the right collectionist that would do the restoration work independently.
As we are today we are willing to consider serious offers and open to sell the project in as it is conditions or including the full restoration of the car in concourse conditions. Price stated is for the car fully restored in concourse conditions. we can sell it in as it is conditions with original documents and chassis + engine and gearbox and you will take care of restoration.
If you decide to go ahead with restoration through us, restoration has been already organized to be started at the end of October 2018 and we have calculated a duration of 18 months.
For any further information if seriously interested in call me at +447949014239 or +393341306571. I wont release the whole presentation of the project via email unless i have received prior phone call with introduction.
we might consider to get some classic or sport cars or a smaller restoration project in part exchange.
