We are delighted to be able to offer this, 1960 (’59 build, ’60 registered) Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite for a commissioned sale on behalf of the owner.
The current owner bought this car some 32 years ago in the Isle of Wight. It had previously been used as the model for fibre glass moulds to be made from. The owner was then 18 years old and for a few years this was his only form of transport. The owner was then (and still is) a member of the Royal Air Force and as such, wherever he was posted, the car went as well. This included a 3 year tour in Cyprus; where rather than just register the car out there, the DVLA exported the car and re-imported it 3 years later. Hence the car has had 6 owners, the last 3 of which are the same current owner!
Despite our best efforts to convince him to keep it, he has decided to let it go to another enthusiast who will carry on giving the car the attention it deserves.
On test, the car drove faultlessly showing just how quick and nimble these cars are. The oil pressure and water temperature were rock solid, the brakes were surprisingly effective and the whole experience was of driving a car that had been very well looked after. This little car not only puts a smile on the drivers face but people in the street also smile (and wave) as you pass by. It’s rare for a car to have that sort of reaction, let alone one that is approaching its 60th birthday. The now older restoration stands up well and the car has a lovely patina about it.
Today the car is in its original colour scheme of Speedwell Blue with a Blue interior and a Blue tonneau cover. The addition of the White fibreglass top means that the car is ready for any weather. There are also a few boxes of spares that come along with the car including a couple of spare (slightly wider) wheels and tyres and also a spare original steering wheel.
With totally restored cars around the mid twenties to mid thirties, we estimate that this car won’t be around too long and sensibly priced at £19,950.
