We are delighted to once again offer this very well-known and impressive Alvis TF21 onto the market. JUB 777E is the 8th to last ever built Alvis T series car and as the last 5 were Grabers, it is in fact the 3rd to last UK car. Alvis records confirm this car left the factory in Midnight Blue with Blue leather upholstery and Grey headlining and was delivered on the 11th April 1967 to A.G Wilson Limited, Regent Street, Leeds 2. Paperwork from the Alvis Owners Club confirms the Club have documentation on this vehicle dating back to 1973 when the car was in Great Yarmouth.
JUB 777E has two large comprehensive lever arch files of history, the first detailing a top quality major restoration in 1992. From the extensive photographic record, we know this TF21 was largely original whilst in need of restoration. Still in its original colour and still retaining its original trim and boasting a webasto sunroof, the Alvis was taken to Alvis, Bentley and Rolls Royce Restoration specialists Elm Grove Coachworks Ltd in Surrey and a major program of work was carried out to an exceptionally high standard. The car was stripped inside and out and taken back to bare metal. Doors, bonnet and boot lid were removed and chassis, engine compartment and complete underbody were shot blasted. The body was then completely restored with new metal and brand new panels included front wings. On completion of the body restoration, the Alvis was fully re-painted in its correct original Midnight Blue. Interestingly, the coach builders working on the Alvis had spent most of their working lives with the original builders of the body, Mulliner Park Ward Ltd. 1400 hours were spent restoring the car to its original and correct state. All chrome work was re-plated, all walnut veneers were polished, and a new West of England Cloth headlining fitted. A new set of Wilton carpets were made, and the original leather carefully treated and restored and new A and B post trim panels made. A new set of chrome wire wheels were fitted, a set of tyres also purchased, the radio overhauled, and new safety belts fitted. Whilst removed from the vehicle, the engine was overhauled, the brakes re-commissioned, carburettors were rebuilt, and a new exhaust system was fitted.
During the 1990's the Alvis was extensively toured and attended Alvis events all over the UK. Since rebuild in 1992, the car has covered an impressive 75,000 miles clearly demonstrating what a fabulous, reliable long distance touring car this is. With power assisted steering, the ZF five speed gearbox and a Webasto sunroof for when the sun is out, this really is the an incredibly impressive usable and enjoyable Alvis to drive. In 2000, almost 25,000 miles after restoration, the Alvis was sold to a then current Director of the Alvis Owners Club based in Scotland having had in the region of £10,000 spent with Red Triangle in 1999/2000. JUB 777E stayed with its Club Director owner for the next 15 years covering 50,000 miles. Alvis events all over the UK were regularly attended and the car was often toured on the Continent and even taken over to the US for an Alvis Club tour. The car has proven a wonderful long distance touring car and throughout the fifteen year ownership it was maintained to a very high standard with receipts for over £14,000 present in the file over this period. Work included rebuilding the cylinder head to unleaded spec, new suspension and braking components including leaf springs, brake discs, pads, master cylinder etc, overhauling the cooling system, tyres, fitting upgraded headlights and much, much more.
JUB 777E came to us for the first time in 2015 and we opted to carry out a full bare metal re-paint at our Malton Coachworks bodyshop due to some micro-blistering issues, we also fitted new Wilton carpets and mechanical work included fitting electronic ignition, uprated HT leads, electronic cooling fan, new top and bottom hoses, rebuilt brake calipers, new rear shocker bushes and serviced the car. Since 2015 the Alvis has had occasional use, has attended Northern events such as Newby Hall and has been part of a small collection where it has been nurtured and used in good weather only. This wonderful motor car comes back to us several years later still in glorious condition with stunning, gleaming Midnight Blue paintwork, excellent straight panels and lovely bodywork. The upholstery still has an amazing original feel and look to it, the engine bay is well presented and as always, the car is outstanding to drive. The engine runs beautifully with excellent performance and oil pressure, the five speed gearbox is fabulous and the handling is very impressive. This is a very correct car still retaining lots of originality whist having major restoration and thousands of pounds of upkeep since rebuild. The mileage tells the real story, this is car that can be driven anywhere with absolute confidence and with its high level of provenance and Club history, this really is a remarkably special car and a true collectors piece being one of the last ever Alvis T Series cars off the production line.
