1971 Porsche 911T LHD Coupe Silver Carrera RS For Sale

1 ----- Summary -----

For sale a 1970 (1971 Model Year) LHD Porsche 911T 2.2 Non Sunroof Coupe PROJECT, in its original colours of Silver Metallic Paint (Paint Code #8080), with Black Interior.

The gearbox (original to the car) is as smooth as liquid silk, and the engine has good performance with Superb oil pressure. It has a period correct 2.2 911T engine (dated 1970), which matches the V5 but is not the original engine (i.e not matching numbers).

As it is not a matching number car, and the engine does not really matter, it can be sold without the complete engine for £37,950 and you can purchase and fit the engine of your choice instead (i.e 2.7, 3.0, 3.2, 3.6, etc).

It is on the road, and recently completed a 600 mile round trip to Goodwood, covering in total around 1000 miles since its last MOT, which will continue to rise as I continue to undertake more work on it. As more work goes into it, the advertised price will rise, so do not be surprised to see the advertised price increase periodically, the only way is up with a 911, be sure of that.

With full nut and bolt restored early 911T's, now successfully selling in the £120,000 to £150,000 bracket, it is priced to reflect the fact it is an on the road project car, which can be driven, but worked on/restored at a pace to suit.

The T has lightweight front and rear RS bumpers, RS rear aches/quarters/wings (steel), RS liverly (decals), with a quicker drive (lighter weight) and more stable cornering (wider wheels), than a standard 1971T. I love the 2.2 engines for their satisfying punch and responsiveness versus, the lazier 2.4 from 72-73. You could if you wanted, quite easily, change it back to original, by just changing the bumpers and rear arches but this is not something we would rush to do, enjoy the better drive and its constant head turning look, as it is for a while.

As a project classic car, it will be sold on a spares or repairs basis, without any form of gaurantee, as a full restoration project, so that I have no worries whatsoever with regard the future.

There are a specific set of rules which apply to the sale of cars as spares or repairs, which will be fully explained PRIOR to purchase. For example, it must be collected by trailer, I cannot give you the MOT certificate so you understand you must check the car over and fix if required before driving, etc.

2 ----- Part Exchange (MULTIPLE Cars up to value, including additional work) ----

I would consider multiple vehicles which are any of the following as a part exchange, up to the full value (100%) in ANY condition, at fair market price (i.e eBay auction bid sold price).

Please research the current market price first of the cars you wish to part exchange, and provide this, when enquiring. It goes without saying, you will need to have the remaining balance in cash in order to conclude a deal.

3 ----- Further Detail (Detailed Comments) -----

The 911 was imported from the US to the UK, back in 2011, by its previous owner, who had it resprayed back to its original colour of Silver, having been given the 73 RS look, and painted yellow by the US owner before. Fast forward to late 2017, when I purchased the car and have since undertaken recomissioning : carrying out work, such as replacing all brake lines/calipers, new fuel tank, new rubber fuel lines, rebuilding the carburetors, electrical and other general work.

While it certainly needs some bodywork, my personal appraoch to the car, would be over the coming winter just work on the mechanical and electricals, and get it to the point it is nice to drive, going to various shows through next summer. Fixing things like, Steering play, oil leaks (2 small currently), fitting a stereo, fitting the fuel breather system, adding anti roll bars, re-connecting/fixing the rear window heater wiring, adding an extra battery, adding heating, fixing a gauge, fitting the bumpers better, and other jobs on the fix list.

Then in a year or two I would move on to the body and a repaint of the body with new panels as required. While the 911 is a constant head turner on the road, in reality it needs a repaint with numerous defects obvious from distances less than 1 meter. Like most of the 911's now, it will need new front wings (rears maybe), sills, kidney bowls, and other associated panels.

Being a non sunroof US coupe it has fared much better than almost all equivalent early RHD 70's (even some 80's) 911's. Its super straight, but I have spotted a some hidden patches of fiberglass, previous welding, and the odd rivet, with body filler in the paint in various places. Normal stuff for ANY classic car, regardless of where they originate from, and how preety they are! Trust me, as an ex mechanic, highly skilled in bodywork, I used to see it every day!! At some point during its history in the US, the sills, rear wings, kidneys were replaced, and they did not do a great job, which shows up in the door gaps, but all of can easily be put right during a decent repaint/body restoration.

In summary, its a very good looking genuine early 911T, which will be really good fun to drive, with plenty of financial room to work on it (vs its finished value) that can be driven without much work and restored at a pace to suit, without paying 2-3 times as much for something very shiney from a seller hiding its true condition.

4----- Contact Details -----

I used to operate Air Cooled Classics full time, I now work full time, and am all the happier for it.

I was well known for my candid, often brutal honesty when it came to selling cars, but that's because I treat others like we would wish to be treated myself, and the difference is I know what these cars should look and drive like. So with me, you know what your really getting, and that is something that should always be highly respected.
